Are you a skin care fan? I really love it – and I love Listening to the details of people’s daily lives. It’s so fun to peek into someone’s daily life. Our team of editors has a diverse mix of skin types and challenges. Today I thought I’d share our daily skincare routine (I’d love to hear your thoughts)…
How would you describe your skin type?
Alison: Easy to get acne. From the age of 12 to 34, I suffered from painful breakouts and tried almost every treatment. When it flared up, I felt very anxious, especially since it was difficult to hide. I’ve done some definite stretches over the years (like during pregnancy and after using Accutane), but it wasn’t until just a few years ago that I finally understood what was causing my acne and what habits worked for me. (Basically, avoid dairy products. Details will be explained later.)
Christine: In magazine terms, it’s “normal to dry.” In my girlfriend’s and my terms, “black people don’t crack.” Melanin does just as much work as expensive serums to keep my skin fairly wrinkle-free.
Janelle: combination. In the afternoon, my forehead and nose always get shiny. I don’t really care about it, but if I’m going out on a special occasion, I’ll take it with me. setting powder in my wallet.
Joanna: Very fair and ruddy. When I wake up in the morning, I’m always covered in stains. Also, because menopause has changed the condition of your skin so much, your skin care routine has also changed.
Caitlin: It is particularly dry during the cold season.
Kelsey: Reactive. Even if you just look at her funny, she’ll turn red, choked, and hurt. Honestly, my skin is a total diva.

What is your morning skin care routine?
Alison: I have a special skin care plan created by my esthetician. acne clinic new york She made it for me 6 years ago! Mornings are easy. exfoliating serum and moisturizing gel.
Christine: There’s really nothing. It’s a miracle if you remember to wash your face. That’s the danger of working from home. Motivation is too low.
Janelle: I have three children under the age of five, so my personal time is limited. On busy mornings, just wash your face with cold water and apply a light layer. cerave cream — It’s my go-to moisturizer because it’s moisturizing, fragrance-free, and cheap.
Joanna: This winter, my skin became so dry and blotchy that I would wake up with small red bumps that looked like a rash. My dermatologist’s theory is that my cleanser is removing dirt from my face, so he recommended I switch to a very simple cleanser. vani cream. My skin cleared up instantly and now my sons are also using it. What I use after cleansing: in beauty extreme creamvery creamy and moisturizing. I started using it a few months ago and it’s been working great for me. I finally feel like my skin is brighter!
Caitlin: I usually purify During my morning shower. I also do it several times a week. clay mask Apply it to your T-zone and leave it on while you get dressed and make your coffee. After rinsing off, my skin feels even fresher and cleaner.
Kelsey: Every night, rinse your face and dry it with a clean towel. If your skin is irritated, this will soothe it Summer Friday jet lag mask/moisturizer. It counteracts redness like no other person. Apply a thin layer to finish polyglutamic acid serum. This is amazing and has an instant smoothing effect on skin texture (see scars). This is a million times better than any other primer I’ve tried, and I use it even on no-makeup days because it stays hydrated without being sticky or shiny.

What sunscreen do you use?
Alison: I use this on my face tinted mineral sunscreen. For my body, I like This sport. Both are acne safe! I pay close attention to the ingredients in my beauty products and am thorough in everything. pore clogged checker before purchasing.
Christine: I don’t really like sunscreen. Very bad. For example…I never use it. (disappointing!)
Janelle: I used to be a SuperGoop gal and my skin became oily. I switched to beauty pie I bought it 2 years ago and really liked the matte finish. Hat too!
Joanna: I like different sunscreens, but this is the one I always come back to. vacation Because I love the scent. Another favorite is Elta MDdoes not irritate my sensitive skin.
Caitlin: I spend a lot of time outdoors reaching for Trader Joe’s Daily Facial Sunscreen every day. It’s clear, incredibly light, absorbs easily, and has a subtle but pleasant scent. I keep this sunscreen in my bathroom and in my bag because skin cancer runs in my family and I’ve experienced some scares myself. and In the car.
Kelsey: Most sunscreens cause severe breakouts. What I use in winter is Ilia skin tint SPF 40. But with summer just around the corner, you need something hardcore that won’t fall off during sweaty commutes or beach days. Is there any fix?

What is your personal hero product?
Alison: I don’t really believe in hero products. I’ve seen the best results come from sticking to a consistent, boring routine. I don’t really enjoy talking about beauty. When someone suggests something new, I think, “No, I already know what works for me.” My system is done.
Christine: I’ve recommended these exfoliating pads many times, so it’s only natural that I get a PR job. M-61 Power Glow Peel. Years ago, when I tried them for the first time, my skin noticeably glowed. Will I see results quickly? Sold!
Janelle: mario badescu drying lotion. I get acne during my period, but I can’t use most acne cosmetics because I’m allergic to some of the common ingredients. This always takes care of stubborn acne without causing any reactions.
Joanna: I know I’m a broken record, but sunscreen for vacation It can also be used as a fragrance and I get a lot of compliments. The whole family is obsessed with this scent. we also bought vacation air freshener For our car because we love it so much.
Caitlin: a friend gave me a bottle calendula ointment After my daughter was born, I was told that it was good for diaper rash. My kids have (thankfully) graduated from diapers now, but that ointment is so good that I still keep it on hand for things like kitchen burns and dry skin. My whole family has a cold right now, and the red and rough noses are all healed with this ointment.
Kelsey: indi lee brightening cleanser. This is a great exfoliant, and the longer you leave it on, the better it works (leave it on your face for a few minutes while you wash the rest of your body in the shower). Like most “whitening” products (and they really whiten), it can get a little pink if you overdo it, so I use it a few times a week.

What does your nightly routine look like?
Alison: I always use it after taking a shower before going to bed this body wash. then wash your face using an oil-free cleansersimply do a second cleanse using the following method. micellar wateruse. moisturizing gelends with Vaseline on my lips. Also, wash your pillowcases every two to three days. That way you won’t go to bed dirty (especially since you only wash your hair once or twice a week).
Christine: When it comes to skin care, I try not to think too much about it and instead focus on the three steps of “washing”.Aveeno Positively Radiant Cleanser), tone (Mario Badescu Cucumber Cleansing Lotion), moisturizing (Sunday Riley Vitamin C Cream). This combo (plus power glow pad (several times a week) to keep your skin balanced. And I like that it combines high and low. Aveeno is a solid drugstore brand, but Sunday Riley is a splurge brand for me. But that’s kind of the point. It’s a skin treat and I love the luxurious texture and scent.
Janelle: If you have makeup on, use this to remove it micellar water. (I read and started using Chloe Hall’s Beauty Uniform, but I can’t use it anymore.) If you skip this step, you will feel a difference, and the difference is not good! Then I use Ride or Die cetaphil cleanserI’ve been obsessed with this since I was a teenager. It makes my skin feel greasy but never dry. After this, I will layer it thoroughly. CeraVe moisturizerdrink a glass of water and call it a night.
Joanna: wash with vani cream cleanser Again (I keep one bottle in the shower and one by the sink). I use it once a week korean exfoliatorI love it because I can actually feel the dead skin cells peeling off. My skin felt very smooth after the treatment. then I end up with the same thing INN beauty moisturizerthat’s it.
Caitlin: I like to press a warm, wet washcloth to my face for a few seconds every night. Closing your eyes and keeping warm can be very comforting, especially if you’ve had a long day. If I feel responsible, I will follow up. night creamas they say, is formulated for mature skin.
Kelsey: I wash my face in the shower, alternating with my beloved indie lee and la roche posay foaming cleansing oil (I know lathering = cleansing, but I need lather). I glycolic acid toner Several times a week. SkinCeuticals CE Ferula Serum It’s my favorite treatment product (yes) all — reduces sun damage, evens out your tone, and makes you look more awake), but it’s expensive, so you don’t always have it on hand. Moisturizer is my luxury. i love Caudalie Premier Cru Creme and Summer Friday Rich Cushion CreamBoth are extremely moisturizing but don’t clog or irritate your skin.

What’s the biggest skin care lesson you’ve learned?
Alison: What I eat really affects my skin. A few years ago, I spent four months working with an esthetician to figure out what was causing my acne. In my case, dairy products cause breakouts, but if I accidentally eat them, I almost always notice within a few days.
Christine: I hate facials! For me they are not relaxing at all and it took me 2 to realize that I don’t like people touching my face. I’ve also learned to accept that I’m not just a product geek. I like what I like and will probably continue using it until I die. Just like my mother has been using Noxema for over 65 years.
Janelle: Sleep makes a huge difference. If you don’t get enough sleep, your skin will become very dry and flaky. Of course, I can’t always control my sleep time (I’m currently waking up three times a night to nurse), but if I have an event where I want to feel my best, I try to go to bed earlier in the days leading up to that event. I swear, the extra time will brighten your skin.
Joanna: As a teenager, I would sunbathe on my dad’s backyard deck in Michigan (it was the 90’s!) and would sometimes get a sunburn. My twin sister did the opposite, slathering on sunscreen and wearing long sleeves to the beach. Decades later, you’ll notice the difference. Her skin is like cream. Now I tell every teenager I know to wear sunscreen.
Caitlin: Not to sound like a fellow habit stacker, but what works for me is to maintain my feelings cleanser and face scrub In the shower. Seeing the scrub in the shower helps me remember to use it once a week.
Kelsey: Dehydration is not the same as dryness. You can layer on moisturizer, but if you don’t exfoliate to remove dead skin and makeup residue from your face, the moisturizer will just build up there and won’t do anything. That’s the secret to poor skin. Oh, and everything they told us about drinking water is true.
