Stir Fry Sauce – A Beautiful Mess

We make lots of stir-fry at home. Today I’m here to share my homemade stir-fry recipes. This 5 minute recipe is super easy!

I think being able to make great stir-fry is one of the meals that everyone should know. This should be taught as a basic life skill in school. I love rice, I love noodles and I love the rest of the meat and vegetables to run out of anything sitting in the fridge.

Yes, you can certainly use store-bought stir-fries. I think there is a lot of value in being able to throw together from what you’re likely to already have. This simple stir-fry recipe is flavorful, slightly sweet and a little spicy. It’s perfect for almost anything you throw in your stir fry.

Related: Sweet chili sauce, spring roll sauce, dumpling sauce, sweet sour sauce, orange chicken sauce.

Fry the ingredients for the fry sauce

  • soy sauce – Traditional soy sauce or low sodium or gluten-free.
  • Chicken stock – Or chicken soup.
  • Sesame oil – Adds depth of flavor.
  • Rice vinegar
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Garlic – Fresh garlic, chopped.
  • ginger – Fresh inger, chopped.
  • Brown sugar
  • Red chili flakes – Kick a little.

This may seem like a lot of materials, but keep in mind that many of them are shelf stable or can be stored in the fridge for a long time (and therefore can be used over time).

direction

Combine all the ingredients in a small to medium size mixing bowl. Beat together until the sugar is completely dissolved.

Another option is to add all the ingredients to a jar, like a mason jar with a lid. Next, shake well until the sugar is dissolved.

Now you can pour the stir-fry into the stir-fry mixture while cooking in a large frying pan or pan. Place unused sauces in the fridge in an airtight container for up to a week. This will create a single sauce (the perfect amount), so you can usually use this recipe twice. But it depends on how much stir-fry you are making and the size of your family.

Tips and alternatives

  • Instead of soy sauce, low sodium sodium, liquid amino or gluten-free soy sauce can be used.
  • You can substitute chicken vegetable or beef stocks if necessary. If you want to make vegan stir-fried sauce, you can also use vegetable soup.
  • If you don’t have sesame oil and don’t want to buy it, you can use another cooking oil, such as olive oil. However, I think the sesame oil flavor will be added to this recipe.
  • If you don’t have rice vinegar and don’t want to buy it, you can use apple cider vinegar. I like the sweetness of the rice vinegar, but the ACV works well too.
  • Instead of brown sugar, you can use granulated white, honey, or maple syrup. You can also reduce the amount of sugar if necessary.
  • I don’t feel that this sauce requires thickening agents. However, if you prefer one, add 1 or 2 teaspoons of cornstarch when it foams together.
  • Secret Ingredients – Many people claim that ketchup is the secret ingredient in stir-fry. It enhances the flavor. Try it, start small and let me know what you think.
