This super simple poke sauce makes it easy to make homemade poke bowls. You only need 7 ingredients and a few minutes to make this super fresh and flavorful poke marinade.

Poke is a traditional Hawaiian dish of raw fish marinated in a flavorful soy-based sauce. Poke can be eaten as is, like sashimi, or served over rice with other ingredients such as vegetables, edamame, and seaweed to make a poke bowl. As with any simple dish, the quality of the ingredients is important, so choose the best, freshest fish possible when making poke.

How to make poke sauce

Finely chop the garlic, and peel and finely chop the ginger. I like to mince the garlic with a knife, but if you want it to be even smaller so it dissolves better in the sauce, use a box grater or the smallest holes on a grater. zester.

Stir all ingredients in a small mixing bowl. Use immediately. You can easily double this recipe if you plan on marinating more than a pound of fish.

  • You can use coconut aminos or tamari in place of soy sauce, especially if you’re avoiding gluten.

  • If you want to add sweetness, add 1/2 teaspoon of honey or brown sugar.
