One of my favorite things is seeing moms in photos with their kids. But sometimes, even the most well-meaning spouses aren’t so great in front of the camera. That’s it! In partnership with aura frame — Just in time for Mother’s Day — Here are 12 tips for capturing beautiful snapshots of the moms in your life…

1. Focus on candid moments. The easiest way to become a good photographer is to pay attention to beautiful moments. Kids move quickly, so don’t be afraid to grab your phone and take a photo.

2. A face is not always necessary. Photographs of feet, hands, and the back of a person are very attractive and can tell a story on their own.

3. Take lots of photos. Seriously, come up with 30! One is bound to be good. And she can choose her favorite. You can also use “Live Photo” mode. Capture a few seconds before and after the snap. You can go back later and choose the best frame, the one where no one blinked.

4. Take photos of the scenery. Once you see the view, take out your camera. every. single. time.

5. Move the camera. Placing the camera higher than eye level often makes your face appear brighter (less shadows) and more attractive. Also, move while taking photos. Different angles make a big difference!

6. Don’t forget to cuddle. “When I lost my mother, I realized that the number of photos I had with her was limited,” my friend Liz Libre once told me. “I want a picture of me holding my children in my arms and touching them. I want to see me in my camera roll.” Same thing, oh my.

7. Also record your daily life. Photographing the activities she does all the time (running errands, taking the kids to school, helping her tie her shoelaces) can feel both realistic and beautiful.

8. Let’s play with light. Whether it’s morning or evening, golden hour is always soft and magical. If you’re indoors, turn off overhead lights and move toward natural light near a window.

9. Make it black and white. If the lighting is wonky or the colors feel off, switch to black and white and instantly look classic. I especially do this for photos taken at night.

10. Offer to take a picture with your mom friend. It takes a village to raise a child. It’s so nice to look back on when we were raising children together.

11. It doesn’t have to be perfect. Even a blurry photo can become a forever favorite.

12. Enjoy the photos! Don’t waste it on your phone and enjoy all the beauty with her. highly recommended aura digital frameallows you to easily share photos from multiple phones (you can invite friends and relatives through the app) and display them in an ever-changing carousel.
