Joanna: How did you find out about Jam Calendar?
Patrick: In 2021, my friend was running it and posting reviews every day. I was hooked and watched all her videos. The next year, I bought a calendar, and on December 1, 2022, I thought, “Okay, Mark, let’s make this calendar and evaluate it!” He was like, “Wait, are we reviewing it every day on your Instagram story?” This is so goofy!
Have you both reviewed Jam?
Patrick: Yes, but on the third day, Mark wasn’t very involved with the calendar. At one point, he tried to leave and I chided him, “Are we engaged, Mark?” And he joked, “We’re not engaged yet.” Then all the people on Instagram asked, wait. teeth Are you engaged? And that’s how I thought it should be.
What was the next step?
Patrick: We are both from the Midwest and were visiting our parents in Chicago. That week, I asked my mom, “Should I propose?” And she said, “Oh, yeah.” That day, we went to the mall and bought a ring.
I love mom moments! Mark, did you have any suspicions?
mark: That morning I was on a work call that was supposed to take 30 minutes but ended up being about 2 and a half hours. I was walking in my pajamas with my AirPods when Patrick walked by, freshly showered and wearing a turtleneck. I thought, Wait, why is Patrick dressed up like that? That’s when I realized, oh stupid calendar. [laughs]
What was your proposal plan?
Patrick: My sisters, my parents, and I were all sitting at the kitchen table. I kept the ring box in the calendar door along with my daily jam. We thought this call would never end.
What happened when Mark’s phone call finally ended?
Patrick: I propped my phone up to record a jam review. I thought, “Today is the 19th day, it’s a special day, I haven’t received a 10/10 yet, so I hope I get one today…” Mark turned and looked at me, and I opened the ring box. I took it out.
How exciting!
mark: I was very surprised! It was very Patrick.
Patrick: He said so!
What was your jam that day?
Mark: It really wasn’t that good.
Patrick: That was a little disappointing. Orange cinnamon spice.
To set up their wedding venue, Patrick and Mark used mini jams with people’s names on them.
