We are early in the summer, but I have found myself getting outside as if I were attacked with a strange kind of weight, not a burst of energy. It’s a long season of light, a fresco dinner, and a calendar that fills up suddenly without warning. Still, rather than reviving, I’ve been doing it all with a low fatigue fatigue that can’t shake it all up.

After all, I’m not alone. Despite the promise of seasonal renewal, many of us experience amazing dips in our energy as we turn into spring. We expect the sunlight to fuel us, but instead we can easily find ourselves dragging ourselves into abrupt shifts, annoyed and overwhelmed.

How to beat summer fatigue: Overall tips for regaining energy

Wellness experts say the reasons for fatigue during this season are deeper than requiring naps or vacations. Our bodies navigate complex transitions ranging from circadian rhythms and social burnout shifts to the effects of allergens and environmental stressors. And while the seasonal changes may seem subtle, the internal readjustment it requires can make us feel completely exhausted.

Good news? There are some mild changes in the routine, so you can support the energy, feel more grounded and actually enjoy the next few months.

What’s behind summer fatigue?

There are many reasons for seasonal fatigue. Your body’s circadian rhythm, which regulates sleep and energy, is in response to changes in sunlight and temperature. These shifts may be more unbalanced or tired than usual. Plus, as the weather warms, we often shift our schedules to a more social and active lifestyle.

Why summer makes us feel drained

To understand why the transition to summer can drain us, I spoke with Brooke Taylor, the founder of roadthe overall beauty and wellness sanctuary of Austin. Brook has a background as an aesthetician, global skincare educator, and a master’s degree in Chinese medicine, and combines ancient wisdom with modern healing modalities to help people reunite with vitality.

Brooke says that summer fatigue often results from excessive mental and physical stretching, as he tries to accommodate everything the season demands. In Chinese herbal medicine, each season corresponds to a specific organ system. Summer is associated with the heart and small intestine, dominating joy, connection and clear discernment, she shares. If these systems are out of balance, everything can feel like it’s too much. It can be emotional, social, and even digestive.

Summer represents high Yang energy, Brooke told me. “During this time, energy rises to the surface […] We become more physically active, but this also means that we are more vulnerable to burnout if we don’t nourish, replenish and take the pace. ”

Symptoms of imbalance: What to look for

This internal imbalance is presented in a variety of ways depending on the constitution. “Depending on your environment and lifestyle, it can compete with moisture. [by preventing yang from rising]Brooke explains.

Feeling scattered or restless often indicates an unbalanced anxiety and insomnia. A typical thread? The body and mind working overtime to keep up with the seasonal pace without proper support.

How acupuncture helps you recondition

To restore balance, Brook recommends acupuncture as a deeply supportive tool. “Acupuncture stimulates the body’s natural healing mechanisms, guides the flow of QI and restores balance and resilience,” she says. “By supporting the body’s ability to regulate itself, acupuncture helps to facilitate seasonal transitions and maintain internal harmony.”

Combined with daily rituals such as land food, intentional rest, and outdoor times, acupuncture helps to align with the vibrant energy of the summer.

Herbs and overall remedies for boosting energy

For those looking for natural ways to navigate the seasonal transition and replenish their energy, herbal lists and founders Anima MundiAdriana Ayares suggests watching the rhythm of nature, and the seasons itself. According to Adriana, the marginal space between seasons is often the place where imbalances are most likely to occur. As your body, mind and environment change, it is common to experience discomfort and fatigue.

Maybe you feel like you’re more exhausted than usual

Seasonal fatigue is not only driven by how you feel internally, but also by environmental factors. In traditional herbal systems, spring is associated with the wind element, which can agitate the nervous system and increase calm and fatigue. As daylighting continues for a long time until the evening, our circadian rhythms begin to readjust, temporarily destroying sleep and lowering energy levels.

This time of year, we will also start what Adriana calls a kind of “biological detox.” Here, after winter, the body naturally begins to eliminate waste and reset. Herbal traditions often use bitter greens such as dandelions, nettles and creevers that grow wild in the early spring to support the body’s natural detoxification process. These plants help support liver cleansing and elimination, but their clearing process can slow us down, mist, or fatigue us before the energy rebounds.

Add the increased activities that spring and summer often bring – gardening, social events, travel – and it’s no surprise that our bodies are tense. Like Brooke, Adriana points out that many people feel internal pressure to be productive and cheerful, even if the system is not yet fully coordinated.

Herbs that support seasonal energy

To support the body through this seasonal transition, Adriana recommends herbs that increase both detoxification and cardiovascular strength. In early spring, she often turns to mineral-rich greens and liver tonics. When the weather heats up, the focus shifts to heart and circulation support, especially cooling herbs that balance excessive heat and inflammation.

Here are some of her go-to herbs for spring and summer:

  • Dandelions and Cleavers: Perfect for gentle detox and liver support
  • Nettle: Rich in minerals and deepen your energy.
  • Lemon balm and mint: Aromatic herbs that relieve the nervous system
  • Rose, Hibiscus, Elderberry: Providing cardiovascular health and cooling the body
  • Coriander, fennel, dill: aromatic spices that support digestion and reduce internal heat

Daily practices to make you feel more grounded and energetic

While these herbs function from the inside, Adriana emphasizes the importance of external rituals that help regulate the nervous system and reconnect with the rhythm of the Earth. “We strongly recommend that Forest bathing in particular be outside as much as possible, providing deep physical and emotional benefits,” she says. “These experiences are more than just comforting. They are crucial to our biological regulations and mental well-being.”

She recommends finding a small way to split up digital routines and reconnect with nature. Walk barefoot on the grass, watch the sunset, forage, or take spontaneous day trips. These rituals can provide grounding and readjustment during seasons of change.

Where to start

For those just beginning to explore herbal support, Adriana suggests starting with local ones. Working with your environment is one of the most important things you can do for your nervous and digestive system system, she says. “Match it with spring greenery and aerobic tonics that may be growing near you.”

She also recommends medicinal mushrooms as a safe and effective ally. “Teishi is great for ease and hormone regulation, while the lion’s mane is perfect for boosting the brain. Both are gentle and safe for adults and children.”
