About romance novels: just finished Starter Ex Written by Mia Sosa. She writes really fun, contemporary romance. my favorite is suggestion It has a nice doctor character and was created by Jasmine Guillory. Romance is full of doctor villains, and that’s no surprise. They are often arrogant ex-lovers. But it’s nice to see a positive portrayal once in a while.

About the graphic novel: i love La Perdida Written by Jessica Abel. This is the story of a woman who has never met her father, who travels to Mexico City to learn more about his father’s life. I found this book at a comic store when I was in college. This was the first graphic novel I had ever seen that wasn’t centered around superheroes or sci-fi monsters. I also love the works of Malacca Gharib — I was their American dreamand It’s not always like this. We are definitely in a golden age of graphic novels.

On writing a graphic memoir: A few years ago, a writer friend of mine austin creon He encouraged me to write a novel about becoming a doctor. At first, I was like, “Haha, I don’t think that’s possible.” Still, I kept thinking about it every time a medical student asked me why I didn’t go into surgery. It was a hellish rotation for me and I have a lot to say about it. Also, I often find it easier to understand things when explained in comics.

When you open a book with a birth scene: One of the most surreal things in my medical career was getting pregnant right after I officially became a doctor. Things I thought about after giving birth and recuperating all I was learning it at school. Then my book editor suggested that I include my birth story in a book. I liked the idea of expressing the physical weakness I feel. I literally walked down the hallway at work naked.

About the daily life of a doctor: I work in a hospital, so I see people who need to be hospitalized after being seen in the emergency room. About my rewarding career: It’s very moving to meet people who want to continue in the medical field after the pandemic, especially after seeing how healthcare workers were treated as almost disposable. Those are some of the reasons I wrote See One, Do One, Teach Onebecause I want to share my experience, warts and all. The medical field has major problems, including massive burnout, astronomical student loan burdens, and administrative pressure to see more patients in less time. But it was a great career. I have many opportunities to help people feel better and I feel very privileged to be able to do so.
