This easy garlic toast recipe can be made from start to finish in the oven or air fryer in about 15 minutes. This is a great way to use up stale bread. You only need 5 ingredients to make this simple and delicious side.
I love homemade garlic toast and soup, chili, meatballs in marinara, or pasta dishes like lasagna or manicotti.

How to make garlic toast
In a small bowl, combine softened butter, Parmesan cheese, chopped parsley, and garlic powder. If the butter is not soft, melt it in the microwave for less than 30 seconds. The goal is to have very soft butter, but not melt into liquid.
Cut the French bread in half lengthwise to make a giant sandwich. I want the edges of the garlic toast to be crispier, so I cut the ends off and cut them into individual pieces. However, this is not required. You can also leave the bread in two large pieces.
Spread the garlic-butter mixture evenly over the bread. Sprinkle salt and pepper on top. Bake at 425°F for 8-10 minutes.

Tips and Alternatives
- I like French bread for this recipe, but any type of bread will work. You can also use sourdough, focaccia, or even sandwich bread. If you use thinner French bread, you may need to adjust (shorten) the baking time.
- I almost always use unsalted butter. If you use salted butter, don’t add salt until you’ve toasted it and tasted it to see if it’s already salted enough.
- If you don’t have fresh parsley, you can use Italian seasoning instead.
