color dressing

According to many designers, keeping walls, trim, and ceilings all one color (also known as “color dressing”) will continue to be important next year.

“Paints can all have the same sheen, or, my personal favorite, three different surfaces with different sheen,” explains Susan Wemlinger, founder of Masu. Susan J Designs. “Take it a step further and use lacquer to paint a room with color. It becomes a statement room.”

chartreuse pops

Amy Youngblood, amy youngblood interiorsis all about the bold use of chartreuse. “Chartreuse is a unique combination of yellow and green that gives you energy but isn’t too bright,” she says. “I think it adds fun and a tropical backdrop to the room, especially when paired with neutral-based furniture.”

painted trim

In this regard, Kelly Pilchik said, Kelly Pilchik designagrees that painting the trim the same or similar color as the walls will become an increasingly popular technique. “White trim almost looks unfinished in a room,” she says, noting that painting the trim a different finish than the walls (a full gloss, for example) is a smart choice.

Founder Kelly Gable gable interiorwe also believe that contrast and accent trims reign supreme. “Gone are the days of accent walls, and in their place are accent trim,” she says.

two-tone cabinet

She’s referring to cases where the fronts of cabinets are painted one color and the inside is a contrasting color, or when the fronts of cabinet doors or drawers are one color and painted with another color. If the colored molding trim makes up for it. “We’ve been seeing this done on furniture for years, but it’s starting to make its way into built-in pieces, and we couldn’t love it more,” says the designer.

pretty purple

People won’t be avoiding purple next year, says founder Sally Lord. greyhunt interior. “Purple is becoming more popular,” she says. “It’s a strong debut for next year, mixing colors like chartreuse, green and yellow.”

Wemlinger expects to see more use of eggplant, plum, purple and mauve colors next year. “It’s not for everyone, but if it’s the right decision for the room, it can have a big impact,” she says. “I think consumers are ready to like color, but they don’t necessarily want super bold or bright colors. They still want to be able to come home to their sanctuary and relax. I’m here.”

Lots of light green

Lord says green will be making big waves next year in many forms, especially in brighter shades. “Mint green and green-teal are coming in strong.” Weave these hues into your home to embrace the classic coastal look, no matter where you live.
