@PinkNews Utah Rep. Trevor Lee has introduced a bill to rename the 900 South stretch in Salt Lake City as “now called Harvey Milk Boulevard.” Milk, a well-known gay rights activist, was awarded the street name in 2016. Lee says he believes Kirk, who was recently “assassinated in Utah,” has strong local ties. Roads are not state roads, and city governments usually control the naming of streets. This means that Utah Legislatures may not have the legal authority to mandate changes. Lee supports other conservative measures, such as a law that prohibits pride flags on government property. #harveymilk #utah #charliekirk #Republicans #LGBTQIA ♬ News/Minimal Suspense (1169746) – hiraoka kotaro
Aside from Kirk’s assassination, he has no connection to Utah. Milk had a road stretch named after him in 2016 after a vote by the Salt Lake City Council.

900 South is not a state highway. In other words, urban governments usually control street naming. Therefore, Utah Legislatures may not have legal authority to mandate changes.
Lee has a history of anti-LGBTQ+ emotions. He recently sponsored a bill banning the state’s Pride flag, and after the Sundance Film Festival moved from Utah, he said it “promoted filth” and “can’t miss it.”
Republican Utah Gov. Spencer Cox, who called for the death penalty of Charlie Kirk’s shooter, is also anti-LGBTQ+, saying in March he would allow a domestic policy banning displays of certain flags, including LGBTQ+ pride flags and schools and government buildings. The AP reported.
