Tyra and Zara Larsson officially team up for the first time on ‘She Did It Again’, a new single that fuses their unique pop styles into one sophisticated, rhythmic release (and now we’ve got plenty of new pop music coming out for the weekend – a big win!).

The track serves as the second single from Tyra’s upcoming second album. Apopmarking another step in her meteoric rise since breaking out with “Water.” Alongside the release, the duo released a music video that moves between scenes of desolate desert landscapes and cascading waterfalls, giving the project a cinematic feel without resorting to heavy spectacle.

First collaboration built online and in studio

Although this is their first official duet, the connection between the two artists began well before their studio sessions. The two were aware of each other’s work and followed each other on social media.

“I’ve been a fan of hers for several years and we’ve been following each other on social media for a while,” Tyra said. vanity fair. The two eventually met during a night out at The Box in London, which led to an unexpected creative epiphany.

Larson recalled hearing early snippets online and immediately wanting to get involved. “I heard the song the night she posted the snippet on Instagram and thought, ‘Damn, I want to be a part of this,'” she said. “She contacted me and we went out to dinner and then to the studio,” Tyra added. “There was a cut to us in the studio playing music for each other, and she asked me to join in. I was blushing!” she says, summing up the moment as “the rest was her story.”

A sound that combines two pop eras

Sonically, “She Did It Again” sits at the intersection of Tyra’s smooth, genre-blurring approach and Larson’s upbeat, hook-driven pop instincts. The production emphasizes light and fluidity, and is constructed to emphasize rhythm over density.

“I want people to feel free and passionate when they hear this,” Larson said.

Tyra said the collaboration allowed her to take the track into more pop territory without straying away from her core identity. “That’s where I am now musically. I feel like collaborating with Zara pushed the song even further into pop territory without losing the feel I wanted,” she said.

Both artists remain busy personally. Larson is currently in her midnight sun He hints at a possible remix project following his recent release (maybe Tyra will be featured on this deluxe album…only time will tell!). Meanwhile, Tyra released her self-titled debut album in 2024 and continues to gain momentum with singles like “Push 2 Start” and “Chanel” and collaborations with big-name artists like Travis Scott and Lisa.

Visual direction: minimal styling, maximum impact

The music video for “She Did It Again” focuses on contrast over complexity, placing the artist in a natural environment that oscillates between the heat of a desert and the movement of a waterfall.

Stylistically, the approach was deliberately pared down. Tyra’s stylist, Ron Hartleben, and Larson’s stylist, Emma Oreck, strived to focus on performance and presence rather than heavy styling concepts.

“We really wanted to strip everything down and let the girls shine through music and natural beauty,” Hartleben said, noting that earth tones and a neutral palette guided her wardrobe choices.

Larson’s look featured fringed Cavalli pants and a metallic bodice paired with an archival Jean Paul Gaultier wrap skirt designed to accentuate movement without distracting. Orek said the goal is contrast. “There was a clear intention to contrast Zara’s current hyper-vibrant, glamorous world with something more organic, while honoring her unapologetically pop energy,” she said.

A combination of nostalgic energy and modern pop

This collaboration fits into a long tradition of era-defining pop pairings, from Beyoncé and Lady Gaga to Madonna and Britney Spears. But rather than relying on choreographed visuals or maximalist production, Tyra and Larson opted for something looser and more visceral.

Larson described filming as a surreal moment in real time. “I remember after we shot our first scene, we were looking at each other laughing like, ‘Wow, this is our life!'” she said. “That’s amazing!” (I’m jealous though…)

For both artists, ‘She Did It Again’ represents a meeting point between two emerging pop identities, one rooted in the warmth of South African music, the other shaped by the precision of European pop, resulting in a collaboration that feels intentional without losing its spontaneity (and my hips are vibrating, so you know that’s a good sign!).
