Never before has the San Jose State women’s volleyball team attracted so much attention. But there was a national uproar over the possibility that the team had a trans woman playing on the team, a player named Blair Fleming.
But last night, the SJSU Spartans lost in straight sets to the Colorado Rams, 25-18, 25-20, 25-20.
That’s a bit of a blowout in volleyball.
So Colorado State entered the game at 7-5, but upset San Jose State, which was undefeated until last night. current state of colorado Leads the Mountain West standings.

That match also happened to be The Rams’ “comprehensive game of excellence.”
With four teams withdrawing or announcing their intention to withdraw from games against SJSU and Fleming, Colorado State chose to play and won in a landslide.
Fleming played three years on the Spartans team. They have never won a conference championship and have never come close to a national championship. In volleyball, no single player can determine the outcome, which reflects the reality of having (presumably) a transgender athlete on a volleyball team. She may have influence, but she doesn’t decide the outcome.

As Fleming, Obtained the most “kills” during the match for SJSU14, the most in the game. She also had the most digs and the most blocks for the Spartans.
However, San Jose State lost in a decisive victory for the Rams.
This game, along with the Spartans’ other in-season results since Fleming joined the team, is a head-scratcher as to why the team would forfeit against the Spartans.
There have been questions about her safety, even one of Fleming’s teammates has raised the issue, but she says she’s simply much stronger than the other players on the court. However, there were no signs of injury or questions about it prior to the last few weeks.
In the meantime, law enforcement is keeping an eye on the threat and taking extra precautions to protect this SJSU team.
All of this happened while at least one of Fleming’s teammates was protesting her addition to the team.
What a mess.
SJSU head coach Todd Kress mentioned that some schools have opted to forfeit losses instead of playing against his team.
“It’s not just us who are missing out on the opportunity to play, it’s the people who choose not to play with us.” he said. “This is very unfortunate for the young women who have earned the right to step on the court and play.”
