More recently, Cleveland.com George assaulted the 25-year-old female victim, with whom he had been living for the past year, multiple times, threatened her with a gun and beat her so severely that the victim had to be treated by a nurse who works for George’s own restaurant group, he said.
“You think God is going to help you?” George taunted the woman as he shoved a towel down her throat and choked her, police said. George also mocked the woman for praying to God and said she would not die during multiple attacks, the report added.
Police say the abuse began in September 2023 and finally ended last month.
The restaurateur turned himself in Friday after a warrant was issued for his arrest charging him with attempted murder, rape, felony assault, four counts of kidnapping and two counts of strangulation.
George was released on $200,000 bail after appearing in Cleveland Municipal Court on Tuesday. Under a protective order, a judge barred George from having any contact with the alleged victim.
According to court documents, the woman “fears for her life.”
In the first attack detailed by police, George is said to have thrown the victim against a kitchen cupboard so hard that glass broke.
The following month, George pinned her to the floor, choked her and slammed her head repeatedly against a table, leaving her with blurred vision, bleeding and ringing in her ears, police said.
“The defendant then had the victim treated by a nurse at his workplace, who diagnosed her with post-concussion syndrome,” according to a Cleveland Police Domestic Violence Unit report included in the arrest warrant.
George is accused of holding a gun against the woman’s abdomen after she tried to flee the home, raping her after she came out of the shower and choking her multiple times.
“The defendant pulled her hair, choked her and threw her across the house,” a Cleveland police detective wrote.
George’s lawyer, Kevin Spellacy, denied the allegations.
