Buttigieg joins 15 other politicians and community leaders He has already endorsed Jones for the job and has been praised for using his position and status to support fellow progressive politicians. Many also hope that Mr. Buttigieg’s recent tour of the United States to inspire other Democrats like Mr. Jones is a sign that the former presidential candidate will once again run for our nation’s highest office in 2028.

Jones, an accomplished academic with degrees in mathematics, physics and nuclear engineering, is entering politics for the second time after finishing second to Republican Sarah Huckabee Sanders. 2022 gubernatorial election. The results weren’t all that surprising in a state that has had red flag elections since the 1960s. But progressive Democrats are working to change that trend in the South.

Jones’ opponent in the House race is Rep. French Hill, a Republican politician and banker who has come under fire for his controversial past. racist campaign ads (When he ran against Clark Tucker in 2018), he repeatedly voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act, among other far-right positions. But liberals in the state are hopeful. recent polls Show Jones running ahead of Hill in the race.

“Chris Jones is a community-based leader with a vision to build prosperity for every state of Arkansas, one piece at a time,” Buttigieg said in a formal announcement of his endorsement. “At a time when politics can feel like a punch in the face, Chris is focused on a better future where entrepreneurs can thrive, young people can find good-paying jobs, and politicians are held accountable. Chris, who is a scientist, an ordained minister, and knows how to bridge the gap will make an excellent member of Congress. I’m proud to join his campaign.”

“I am honored to have the endorsement of Pete Buttigieg and am excited to welcome him to Little Rock,” Jones said in the announcement. “Pete is one of the most powerful messengers in this country because he continues to focus on the table issues that shape people’s lives, from gas and grocery prices to housing and health care costs. These are the things I hear every day from families in Arkansas’ 2nd Congressional District. Pete understands what’s at stake in this election for Arkansas families who deserve better representation and the direction of this country. I’m proud to have him stand with us. ”
