Past and present top sheriffs signed a letter demanding that New York City Pride be barred from attending events at hospitals that have stopped providing medical care to transgender children.
Transgender advocacy group Gender Liberation Movement released a letter on June 22 to NYC Pride’s board and leadership.
“We write as LGBTQ+ organizations, advocates, community leaders, allies, and New Yorkers who believe that pride must remain rooted in solidarity with those most under attack,” the letter begins.
“Across the country, transgender youth and their families are facing unprecedented attacks on their rights, dignity, and access to health care.”
The letter praises organizations that “bravely defended transgender youth” despite pressure from the Trump administration. However, he also criticized hospitals that had succumbed to the government’s attacks, naming three hospitals specifically.
“Several New York City hospital systems, including NYU Langone, Mount Sinai Hospital, and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, have succumbed to attacks by the Trump administration and have chosen to preemptively discontinue gender-affirming care for young people,” the letter states.
The group also said ending access to gender-affirming care would “put transgender youth at risk” and have “devastating consequences.”
“Families are forced to seek care elsewhere, endure significant interruptions in treatment, and face uncertainty about their child’s future,” the statement continues. defender. “At a time when trans youth need facilities that stand up for them, these hospitals have chosen cowardice over courage.”
It also calls on NYC Pride to ban designated hospitals from participating in current and future Pride marches and festivals in the city “unless they publicly commit to restoring care and protecting transgender youth and their families.”

“Educational institutions cannot claim solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community for even one day a year while abandoning transgender youth when political pressure mounts,” the statement reads.
“As a community, we are at a historic moment when we must be clear about our support for the next generation. Transgender youth are not disposable objects or political pawns. They deserve the health care that enables them to have a future worth living.”
The group said 2026 NYC Pride grand marshals Bowen Yang of Gays Against Guns, Dominic Jackson, Peppermint and Jay Walks all signed the letter.
Former Grand Sheriffs including Michelle Visage, TS Madison, Jazz Jennings, Cayenne Dorocho and Raquel Willis all support this statement.
The letter is also supported by many other members of the LGBTQ+ community, transgender children and their families, LGBTQ+ advocacy groups, and queer leaders. Finally, we are inviting others to support the movement through the GLM website.
