The District of Columbia Mayor’s Office of LGBTQ Affairs is promoting four city-sponsored events in June to commemorate LGBTQ Pride Month.
“These moments are meant to honor our history, uplift our community, and celebrate the partnerships that continue to move us forward,” D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said in a statement.
On Monday, June 1, starting at 4 p.m., the Mayor’s Office of LGBTQ Affairs will hold its annual Pride Flag Raising Ceremony in the John A. Wilson Building. The event, a symbolic start to Pride Month, will feature greetings from the mayor and several community leaders on the building’s steps before participants take a group photo.
Following the ceremony, a reception will be held in the mayor’s office, and there will be a performance by local drag queens. Cake pop! Mocktails courtesy of Spark Social. Participants will also receive custom Pride merchandise. The event is free. For more information, please visit: tinyurl.com/LGBTQFlagRaising2026.
A week later, on Monday June 8th at 6pm, the office will host the LGBTQIA+ Legacy Awards and Toast in the Dockmaster Building at The Wharf. The reception will honor leaders, advocates, artists and organizations who have made significant contributions to Washington’s LGBTQ community. Organizers say the event “creates a meaningful space for personal recognition, storytelling, and gratitude in advance of large-scale public celebrations during Pride Month.”
