Kentucky is on track to pass new legislation that would classify transgender people as mentally ill and ban trans teachers from working.

State Sen. Jex Williams proposed an amendment to House Bill 759 regarding teacher certification.

Although the proposed amendment itself does not specifically mention transgender people, it would prohibit the certification of teachers diagnosed with or treated for “disabilities excluded from the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.”

The ADA establishes a list of “disabilities” that are not protected by law, including “gender identity disorder.” Other disorders include transsexualism, pedophilia, kleptomania, gambling addiction, and voyeurism.

When you talk to herald leader “Those who continue to promote such sex change and gender confusion, or who are themselves confused, should not receive teaching licenses that give them the privilege of caring for, custodial and controlling Kentucky’s most precious assets: our children,” Williams said on March 9.

The proposed amendment would also require a Kentucky-licensed physician to “diagnose the disease.” [excluded from the ADA] Based on the DSM III definition of the disorder. ”

This means doctors will have to reclassify being transgender as a mental illness for the first time since 2013, using outdated terms such as “transsexualism” and “gender dysphoria” instead of gender dysphoria.

After consideration on March 28, Senate Republican leaders placed the bill on consent order until March 31. This is a fast-track procedure aimed at creating “uncontroversial legislation.” transit Reported.

This fast track means that the bill is voted on without prior deliberation. If no other senators oppose Williams’ amendment, it will pass by default.
