I’ve spoken before Kellan BakerPhD, MPH, Massachusetts, surpassing one of Donald Trump’s anti-trans executive orders. He was executive director of Whitman Walker’s Institute of Health Research and was part of a committee that notified the National Institute of Health and Gender definitions. “There is no easy, simple, simple, binary, immutable definition of sex. It simply does not exist from a biological perspective,” he told me. “There are a few elements that fall into what we think is gender: chromosomes, gonads, external genitals, hormones.”
He said, “All of these elements of these sexes are in place. All of these elements of these sexes cannot be aligned with each other. If you have undergone chromosomal testing and know that there are probably intersex variations, or maybe there are different bodily elements than what you would expect from males and women, they will be very surprised.”
