Ilana Glazer On Realizing They’re Nonbinary

When Ilana Glazer realized she was non-binary

Ilana Glazer is known for her iconic Comedy Central sitcom of the 2010s Broad City.

You may have seen it in a movie recently. Babes She co-starred with Michelle Buteau and co-wrote the screenplay with Josh Rabinowitz.

On InstagramIlana now uses “they/she” pronouns. It is unclear when she made this change, but USA Today Earlier this year, they revealed that identifying as non-binary means [they] feel [their] body.”

In a new interview IndependentIlana shared more about her identity as non-binary and also explained how her pregnancy has given her clarity.

“On paper, being pregnant was the most feminine thing I could do, but in reality it brought out both the masculine and feminine sides of me,” Ilana said in the interview.

“For a long time, my masculinity felt like something I had to hide or joke about, and my femininity felt like a foil,” they explained.

“There was always an element of comedy in it, which limited my true personal experience.”

Ilana went on to say that “the gift of pregnancy” has helped her realize how to “be true” to herself. When the magazine asked how her non-binary identity has affected her life in general, Ilana said it just represents “a point in a long journey of self-actualization.”

“I live in the world in a more authentic way,” they added.
