I responded to a moderate’s anti-trans sports views

Transgender participation in sports – long at the go-to flashpoint for the right rage machine, it has long become one of the most visible battlefields in the broader battle for the US trance rights. The polling suggests that Even some Democrats express discomfort But whether the voters are actually It’s a completely different question that lawmakers want it to be legislative.. At least some of my readers know that this unsettling middle ground falls within this unfortunate middle. People who are more likely to support moderates with transgender friends and family, and people who are widely supportive of trans rights but still feel uncertain about the ban on sports. This article is for you. Those who still understand that, and those who want to be better equipped when lawmakers try to turn sports into political weapons.

Recently, an elderly gentleman on blueskiing answered a story I wrote about the ban on transgender sports. “I’m a stubborn liberal, 62-year-old man,” he writes. [also] I disagree that athletes with advanced prosthetics should be able to compete. Bionic people can run faster. Where do you stop? It’s okay to ban them. ”

It would have been easy to dismiss this guy as just another Transforme. But I didn’t. I scrolled through the history of his comments to see if he was a troll. He wasn’t. In fact, he was taking my many posts seriously. He supported trans rights, opposed bathroom bans and opposed the transgender military ban. In other words, he was exactly the kind of person that was reflected in the vote. He was an alliance who still felt uncertain about trance participation in sports. So instead of writing him down, I answered. I asked a few questions, listened to his concerns and made what I wanted to be a reasonable and moderate case against the ban on transgender sports…and it worked!

When most people think about participating in transgender sports, their minds jump to a handful of famous cases amplified by Fox News, including swimmers, tracking, boxing, and other extremely physically demanding sports. What they don’t realize is that the ban on trans sports often goes far beyond those edge cases. For example, in West Virginia, the ban is covered. 12 year old single transgender girl People who have never had male adolescence. And it didn’t stop in contact sports – trans women, darts and fishingif there is no possible motor advantage. These laws are not about fairness in competition. They are excluded, simple and simple.

So I asked him… “Even darts? In the pool? Competitive Irish dance? Chess? These bills deal with all the above.” And they do –Each of these sports Seeing transgender people are being banned in competition, even some conservatives were unable to defend their position in the ban on sports. This guy answered immediately. [person] If the stadium does not change, switch it. The bill must be reasonable. If not, don’t vote. ”

I could say I went to him. To be fair, I thought I would. This was not the first conversation I had like this. That’s because once you pull back the curtains, the reality of transgender participation in sports doesn’t look like a commonly supplied version, either by the conservative media, and frankly, even some liberal outlets. Apart from being stubborn, most people who take a stance on this issue don’t give it a very real idea. They don’t look closely at how these prohibitions are written, how they are enforced, or what impact they actually have.

The physical demands of chess are very different from those of disc golf or pools. And they are not like running or swimming requirements. However, the ban on transgender sports never explains these distinctions. And although no studies have shown that transgender women taking hormone therapy have retained a biological advantage for more than two years, testosterone suppression is It greatly reduces muscle mass and strength-It’s often not where to start. Science can come later. What I found more effective is how trance participation is already being handled, and in fact it is a much more fair and thoughtful way to ban blankets being pushed out across the country.

“So let’s take this a step further… wouldn’t it make much sense to allow each sport to set its own regulations? We shouldn’t treat swimming like golf as we do with chess, because we know that the regulators of those sports are fair.

“Yes… that makes sense. I apologize. Don’t waste your time on me. There are a lot of tons here. I’m on this platform to read the latest updates on the end of our country on this platform.

I reached him. Maybe not everything, but when someone develops a trans athlete, he may pause. He said, “Did you know they actually banned trance people with chess and darts? I don’t know, that’s just too a step.” And that moment of doubt is important. This is someone who considers himself a moderate. And here is the truth. They are drastic, reactionary, and often ridiculous. However, votes rarely capture the nuance. Most studies do not investigate in greater depth than intestinal responses. The more you actually learn about how these prohibitions work, the more difficult it will be to protect.

There is a lot to say about this issue. And there are a lot of angles people are overlooking. The ban on transgender sports is not only harming trans athletes. They also lead to the acceptance of cisgender children Invasive genital test Just to play in the Youth League. Science does not support the ban. Many transathletes compete at disadvantage, with even the most populous states only a handful of participants. These laws waste public funds, codify discrimination, and act as gateways for even broader anti-trans attacks. And politically, they don’t offer the protection they want some Democrats. Ask New Hampshire, who has fallen into a sports ban, loses 20 house seats and is now staring at the new anti-trans law flood. There are no medium cases of these prohibitions. If you’re not a reactionary conservative, you shouldn’t support them.

I write extensively about participating in transgender sports, but I hope it will take some time to read more. But if you’re someone sitting in that “anxious middle” or you have friends and family, I hope this story sticks to you. I hope that we will reconstruct the problem in a clear, human-like way. Because transgender sports bans are not moderate. They are extreme, often ridiculous in scope and rooted in fear rather than fairness. If we are serious about finding a reasonable path for trans people, these dull, exclusive policies are not the path.
