June 5th marks the 45th anniversary of the first report of AIDS. To commemorate this occasion, Whitman Walker Health will sponsor a screening of the film “How to Survive the Plague” on June 5th at 5:30 p.m. in the GWU Lisner Auditorium (730 21st St., NW).

After the movie, attendees will head to Dupont Circle to participate in a candlelight vigil at sunset.
The film reflects on the lessons learned from the community-led response to the plague, while paying homage to those who died from HIV and AIDS. This work tells a story of activism and innovation around AIDS survival. Drawn from a treasure trove of archival footage, the film is an epic and intimate account of the nine-year struggle to save the lives of a small group of people, most of them HIV-positive, according to a statement from director Whitman Walker.
