gay hockey romance fierce rivalry received the Peabody Award at the 86th annual awards ceremony on April 23, earning one of television’s highest honors.

This series is based on the bestselling book by Rachel Reid. game changer The novel, directed by Jacob Tierney, was recognized for its powerful storytelling and what the judges called “arguably the biggest cultural impact in television this year.”

Since its premiere in November 2025, the show has become a global phenomenon.

In addition to winning the Peabody Award, the series has garnered major honors including a GLAAD Media Award win and multiple Canadian Screen Awards, cementing its status as one of the most celebrated LGBTQ+ stories on screen today.

This year, the Peabody Awards, which recognizes storytelling that shapes culture and inspires conversation, selected the “Hot Rivals” from more than 1,000 entries in categories such as entertainment, documentaries, news, podcasts/radio, arts, children and youth, immersive and interactive media, and public service programming.
