GLAAD’s president and CEO has called in Brendan Carr and the Federal Communications Commission for an investigation into transgender representation in the media, saying it is causing “damage.” [to] LGBTQ Americans.”

“Parents should absolutely have a say in what their children watch, and they already know that seeing LGBTQ people on screen and in real life is not harmful,” GLAAD’s Sarah Kate Ellis said in an April 22 statement.

“It’s government overreach that causes harm. Under Brendan Carr, the Federal Communications Commission is once again deciding what you can see on television.”

The FCC announced on April 22 that it would launch an investigation into television ratings systems, including whether children’s programming featuring transgender representation was reported to parents.

car share On his X account, he said: “Parents have recently expressed concerns about the industry’s approach.” He claimed that parents allege that certain media outlets “promote controversial issues in children’s programming without providing any transparency or disclosure to parents.”

Ellis said in a statement that 23 percent of Americans under 30 are LGBTQ+, and more than 5 million children in the country have an LGBTQ+ parent.

“Media companies must be allowed to produce and broadcast stories that reflect one-quarter of their audience without interference from government agencies with anti-transgender political agendas,” she said.

“But this is not just about television. It’s about whether government agencies can reshape culture, restrict storytelling, and undermine free expression. Americans should make their voices heard by submitting comments rejecting this latest attempt by the FCC, led by Brendan Carr, to manipulate the media, erode free speech, and harm LGBTQ Americans.”
