The father of Colt Gray, the 14-year-old Georgia boy accused of killing four people in Wednesday’s school shooting, told police his son was being bullied at school by students who accused him of being gay. National Desk Reported.
Colt Gray was taken into custody as an adult and charged with four counts of murder in Wednesday’s mass shooting at Apalachee High School. His father, Collin Gray, 54, was taken into custody yesterday and charged with providing the firearm used in the murder. Both father and son were denied bail and remain in custody.
The reported bullying was revealed by Colin during a visit by police investigating reports that Colt had made similar threats of violence over the Discord gaming communications system two years earlier.
When police arrived on the scene to investigate the Grays’ report, Collin defended her son, claiming that he had wanted to go to school like any other kid, but had been bullied and accused of being gay by classmates and members of the school golf team.
“It was really hard for him to go to school and not get bullied. He was talking to a few friends and it was just one thing after another,” Colin told investigators in 2023, according to recordings obtained by The National Desk. “I was trying to get him on the golf team. Like, ‘Look, Colt’s gay. He’s dating that guy.’ They were making fun of him every single day.”
Gray did not seem to be suggesting that his son was gay, but rather that some classmates had used the accusation as a form of bullying.
Police knew Gray’s home well, had visited it several times in the past and had warned his son not to own firearms, and the gun Colt used in the murder was reportedly a Christmas gift from Colt’s father.
