David Hockney’s life and achievements
Born in Bradford in 1937, Hockney became associated with pop art and later became known for his bold colours, draftsmanship and experimentation, becoming one of the most influential artists in post-war Britain. His Los Angeles pool paintings and intimate portraits helped define the sunlit modern visual language and became instantly recognizable in global popular culture.
He was an early prominent British artist who was openly gay, and his work frequently explored desire, intimacy, and domesticity with men without euphemism, including art created before homosexual intimacy was legal. In the decades that followed, he championed technology as a serious medium for art production, embracing new tools such as iPhone and iPad drawing.
It has been announced that an exhibition of Hockney’s work will be held at London’s Serpentine Gallery until August.
