David Archuleta is entering a new era, and fans are very aware of it.

Last weekend, social media was ablaze as clips of her performance at a Des Moines Pride event began circulating online. During his set, Archuleta performed his 2008 hit “Crash” shirtless and sweaty on stage, instantly sending longtime fans into a frenzy.

The reaction was immediate

One person cheerfully wrote, “David, I’m a lesbian,” while others chimed in, saying, “Happy Pride,” “The world is healing,” and “This unrequited love will never go away.”

Let’s see what everyone is talking about here.

But for many fans, the excitement goes beyond a viral thirst trap.

Archuleta, 35, has spent the last few years publicly embracing a version of herself that feels more authentic than ever. After coming out as queer in 2021 and subsequently leaving The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the former american idol The runner-up spoke candidly about his identity, dating, and self-discovery in public.

Last year, he opened up to PEOPLE about what dating is like for someone who has spent nearly two decades in the spotlight.

“I think there’s always this barrier when you’re a public figure and you’re used to being noticed and recognized and scrutinized,” Archuleta said. “So they’ve known you for 17 years, and you just met for the first time.”

He also described himself as being in the “lover boy cheating era.”

“I’m in an affair with my boyfriend. It’s a really fun time for me,” he told the magazine.

Archuleta also said that although she primarily dates men, she identifies as queer and remains open to dating people of a different gender if the relationship is appropriate.

A new song you can fall in love with

That confidence and openness seems to carry over into his music.

Last week, Archeleta released two new songs.love for free” and “better than you” June 12th.

The upbeat lead track, “Love For Free,” is about recognizing your worth and refusing to settle for less.

“Love For Free is about knowing your worth, no longer playing games, and setting boundaries,” Archuleta said in a statement. “You learn and you grow, and it blossoms into a person who understands that you shouldn’t mess with other people unless you have the right intentions and spend time with people who value you as a person.”

This release coincides with “Better Than You,” a more nostalgic reflection on past relationships seen through rose-colored glasses.

“It’s also about acknowledging the paranoid way you view someone, one that only highlights the brighter days and moments, rather than the uglier aspects and toxic dynamics that may have existed,” he explained. “And yet, you can’t help but feel nostalgic for whatever it was, even if it wasn’t what you saw in your head.”

The song also follows his release new york times bestselling memoir, pious people hereThe book details his journey with faith, identity, and finding himself outside of the expectations that once defined his life.

In many ways, that’s why this latest Pride moment resonates so deeply with fans.

For a generation that grew up watching a teenage David Archuleta coyly sing “Crash” on TV, watching him embrace every part of himself while confidently performing the song with pride feels like an incredible come full circle.

And judging by the internet’s reaction, that excitement really isn’t going away anytime soon.
