Corbin Bleu and Lucas Grabeel finally speak out about their iconic costume swap High School Musical 2!

After the unforgettable “I Don’t Dance” number, Blue’s Chad does it all. but Let’s just say he can’t dance and convince us that he can’t dance. Fans noticed a playful twist: Chad and Ryan swapped clothes!

Ever since the film was released in 2007, fans have been analyzing the scene and spreading theories that the two were secretly in love. E-Talk CTVBlue and Grabeel are trying to set the record straight once and for all.

“People come up to us and ask, ‘Why was the costume change in ‘I Don’t Dance’ so iconic?'” the pair joked about the theory, saying that ultimately it was up to director Kenny Ortega to decide.

“There’s so much meaning in the lyrics of ‘I Don’t Dance’ already, and I think that was the clincher,” Blue said.

“The lines had been drawn and we were messing it up,” Grabeel added.

Ryan’s Sexuality

Known for his flamboyant personality and incredible fashion sense, Ryan Evans quickly became a fan favorite on the original series. High School Musical Movies. Even though his sexual orientation was not clearly stated in the first three films, his lively personality and love for theatre made him stand out.

Over the years, fans have come up with various theories about Ryan’s sexuality and debated them in online forums and on social media. These theories have been driven by the subtext of the film and the hope that one day Ryan will be accepted for who he really is.

Original director Kenny Ortega High School Musical Ortega has said that he always intended for Ryan to be gay, but felt that Disney wasn’t ready to portray an openly gay character at the time, and instead made subtle choices to hint at Ryan’s sexuality in the hope that audiences would pick up on it. I mean, he really did know what he was getting into with that outfit swap!

Grabeel has been a strong advocate for the character’s development, saying he wished Ryan had been played by a gay actor for a more authentic portrayal.
