Kit and Tristian’s rustic and intimate wedding took place at a local loft space in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. The couple also took photos in a nearby natural area. The wedding was full of colors and most importantly, endless joy.
Tell us about your wedding! What inspired your day?
Our focus was always on having a small, intimate wedding. I didn’t want the wedding to be too stressful, so I wanted a relaxed and easy-going wedding. There were about 20 people in total, most of whom were close family members and close friends. Other than that, our colors were very “natural”. We chose a venue with a more rustic feel and decorated accordingly so everything could have a very simple yet comfortable feel. The colors were mainly yellow, brown, and white, with a few hints of blue-green here and there.
How did you decorate your ceremony and reception venue? Was some of the decoration DIY?
Most of the decor was handmade or recycled, which helped give the space a very cozy feel. Apart from that, the venue featured some vintage and rustic furniture, including wooden arches, beautiful red sofas, and tree stump side tables.
What did the wedding flowers look like?
Flowers were not an important element of our wedding, so they were used sparingly throughout the venue. I prepared small bouquets for the bridesmaids and the bride, and threw some flowers to add a little color to the tables and aisles.
Did you personalize your day in any way?
We prepared all the meals ourselves. It was perfect for an afternoon wedding. There were sandwiches, pinwheels, fruit, vegetables, meat/cheese/crackers, and a wide variety of desserts. It was so much fun to make everything ourselves and enjoy lots of our guests’ favorite treats, and it turned out to be a huge hit.
How did you two decide what to wear on your wedding day?
Kit chose a simple and understated dress. She ended up choosing a tea-length, off-white dress. she loved it very much. Tristian wanted more of a suit style. Our wedding was in the summer and very hot, so she chose a vest instead of a jacket. In keeping with her wedding colors, she matched the rest of her outfit with a teal shirt.
How did you meet? Please tell me about your proposal.
We met online and chatted for about a month before meeting in person. They dated for a year before Kit proposed to Tristian! This proposal was done as a surprise photo shoot and was done with the same photographer (Tanya Plonka). Tanya came up with the idea of Kit and Tristian turning away from each other and facing each other for a three count and making playful faces. They did this twice, and on the third time Kit got down on one knee and surprised Tristian with a marriage proposal. Of course she said yes (and her shocked reaction was all caught on camera)!
What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
After exchanging vows, we can finally call each other “wife”!
Do you have any wedding advice you would like to share with other couples planning their wedding or planning their day?
Let’s make your wedding and the planning process as fun and enjoyable as possible. If it’s too stressful (financially, emotionally, etc.), take a step back and think about what you can do instead. Today is your day. You should enjoy this day and everything leading up to it.
