Back to the Future star says she was Elton John’s ‘beard’ for the night

Darlene Vogel recalled a surreal night in 1980s Hollywood performing Elton John’s “Beard” during a night out.

speak at “Patrick Labiour Show” podcast, Back to the Future Part II The star said he ended up partying with the “Rocketman” icon after they met through a mutual connection in the 1980s.

Vogel said John put his arm around her and joked, “You’ve got to keep up your image,” and “Elton put his arm around me and he was like, ‘You’ve got to keep up your image, darling.'” It’s like, “Please use me.”

The actor later realized that she was, in effect, his “beard”, a term used to describe someone who helps hide the sexuality of others.

Despite the circumstances, Vogel described the singer as warm and down-to-earth, saying, “It felt like I was just hanging out with a friend.”

John first came out as bisexual in 1976 and has since admitted to being gay, becoming one of the world’s most prominent LGBTQ+ figures and has been married to David Furnish since 2014.
