Army appears to make trans service ban official with social media post

The US military officially made it: “They will no longer allow transgender individuals to join the military and will halt the implementation or promotion of procedures related to the gender transition of service members,” according to a post from X, previously. According to Twitter.

“All new access for individuals with a history of gender dysphoria will be suspended immediately and unplanned, planned or planned related to confirming or promoting gender transitions for service members. Medical procedures will be suspended,” the Army post continues.

He also states that “people with gender discomfort volunteer to serve our country and are treated with dignity and respect,” so it is clear whether trans people currently serving will be discharged from hospital. Not that. There are no records of similar posts by other branches of the military, but it would not be surprising if they came.

Donald Trump ordered a ban on trans service members, as he did in his first term, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegses recently issued a rather confusing memo about implementing the ban. The Army then tweets the quote. The memo said trans units currently receiving medical care due to gender discomfort or transition will continue to receive treatment “consistent with standard care.” At the same time, the memo enforces a policy that strips trans service members to recognized members, such as requiring them to be accommodated according to their gender assigned at birth rather than gender identity.

Under President Barack Obama, Secretary of Defense Ash Carter lifted an early ban on trans service members in 2016. That was a Department of Defense policy that was not written in the law. Trump announced a new ban via tweet in 2017, and came into effect in 2019 after several lawsuits. The trans squad was not discharged from hospital as he was considered his grandfather, but the new trans recruit was not accepted. President Joe Biden lifted the ban shortly after he took office in 2021.

Trump and his allies argue that trans identity is inconsistent with military service and that trans units’ health care is too expensive and harms military preparation. For example, not all trans service members undergo surgery while in the military. If so, the recovery period is shorter than most other steps. The cost of gender-affirming healthcare is lower than that of many other drugs and procedures.

The legal battle over the Transban is already underway. Multiple transgender service members have in the US District Court for the District of Columbia He filed a lawsuit They are trying to block the ban on Trump, Hegses and other military personnel from transgender military service. Glad Law and Lesbian National Centersought a temporary restraining order from the court to prevent the implementation of the executive order while the lawsuit was ongoing.

The lawsuit alleges that Trump’s directive violates the equal protection guarantees of the fifth amendment, and claims that transgender service members are chosen for discriminatory treatment. The plaintiffs warn that they face irreparable harm without court intervention, including losing their military careers and essential medical care.
