Andy Cohen has opened up for the first time about his relationship with boyfriend Kevin Sobieski, revealing that after years of waiting for the right relationship, he believes he’s finally found “the one.”
The Bravo host opened up about their relationship on a recent episode of his SiriusXM radio show, days after a photo of the couple holding hands made headlines online.
“I’ve always said you know a person when you meet them,” Cohen explained. “And I’m really glad I met that person, guys.”
For years, Cohen has raised questions about his dating life and whether he would eventually settle down. His answer never changed, he said.
“I always say you’ll know when you meet the person,” he said. “My criteria for what I was looking for never changed. That was always the feeling for me.”
That feeling came to me unexpectedly last summer.
A chance encounter at a July 4th party
Cohen said he first met Sobieski about a year ago at a friend’s Fourth of July party in the Hamptons. It played out like something straight out of a romantic comedy, with Cohen almost skipping the event.
“I hardly went to parties,” he admitted. “I dragged myself out.”
That decision ended up changing everything. After spotting a mysterious man on the other side of the gathering, Cohen knew he had to introduce himself.
“I was like, ‘I need to talk to this person. Who is this person?’
The two spent the evening talking, and Cohen tried to stay in touch, double-checking that he had entered his phone number correctly.
Almost 11 months later, their relationship is still going strong.
“Kind, strong, and wise”
Although Cohen has kept much of their relationship private, he can’t help but gush about what makes Sobieski so special.
“This man is kind, strong, smart and mature,” Cohen said. “He loves my kids and they love him.”
The TV personality, who is also father to son Ben and daughter Lucy, explained that he deliberately took things slow when introducing his partner into his family life.
“We have been very slow, careful and methodical in getting to know each other and introducing him to our children.”
That cautious approach paid off, he said.
“It was very easy.”
No fights, no drama
Perhaps most surprising for a Bravo star surrounded by reality TV, Cohen says the relationship is surprisingly conflict-free.
“In 11 months, we haven’t had a single fight. We’ve never had any disagreements,” he shared.
He explained that the two have similar values and a common outlook on life.
“We just look at life the same way.”
That relief feels different for Cohen, who has been outspoken about dating and relationships for years.
“A year later, I still can’t believe I found him.”
Why he waited to share the news
Although the photos recently made headlines and social media quickly began identifying her boyfriend, Cohen said she wanted to keep the relationship private until she felt she was ready to discuss it publicly.
“I just wanted to be smart and move slowly before I say anything about this.”
He even revealed after showing photos at BravoCon that several Bravo stars had known about the relationship for months, but no one leaked the news.
“Guys, I showed you a lot of housewives, but no one said anything.”
Cohen had originally planned to wait for the couple’s first anniversary, around July 4, to speak publicly about their relationship, but recent attention surrounding the photos hastened those plans. Still, fans shouldn’t expect a traditional celebrity “hard launch.”
“I’m not the guy who posts a picture of us and says this is a tough launch,” Cohen said. “That’s not really my style.”
“I can’t believe I found this guy.”
After the conversation, Cohen became emotional as he reflected on the relationship and the happiness it brought.
“I’m really happy,” he said. “I can’t believe I found this guy. I can’t believe it. I’m shocked.”
Andy, we are happy for you!
