Eye on the Sky: Burning of Jupiter, July 14 to August 13, 2026
Jupiter will burn from July 14 to August 13, 2026. Burning means that Jupiter is so close to the Sun that it is hidden in the night sky. This is one of the biggest afflictions for a planet, but it’s not really talked about enough, because a burning planet burns out and its meaning is lost.
Jupiter rules wisdom, generosity, optimism, good judgment, spiritual grace, our teachers and leaders, children, and the expansion of consciousness. When Jupiter combusts, these meanings become dim. A specific danger is false optimism. Even when things look rosy, they can still feel rosy, and reality can turn grim after a buildup of false hopes. During this period, carefully check the facts, especially if the situation seems too good to be true. Don’t sign contracts or make big promises without thinking carefully.
Saving factors for this cycle
There’s something about this particular Jupiter burn that doesn’t apply to either the 2019 or 2024 burns. Jupiter is in Cancer, the sign of its exaltation. Euphoria is one of the great saviors for our struggling planet. A similarly exalted combust planet retains more of its essential qualities than a combust planet in a neutral or enemy sign. The meaning of Jupiter is hurt, but not destroyed. There is still light in the fire.
Jupiter is also passing through a Pusha Nakshatra (3 degrees 20 minutes to 16 degrees 40 minutes Cancer) throughout the combustion window. Pusha is considered one of the most auspicious constellations in the zodiac. Its presiding deity is Brihaspati, the high priest of the gods and the sacred Jupiter himself. Most planets except Saturn get uplifted when they pass through Pushya because of the Brihaspati energy flowing through them. This irony is noteworthy. Jupiter burns and eclipses the Sun, while at the same time moving through its own divine constellation. Although the Guru temporarily hides, the ground on which he walks is his own sacred territory. This is no ordinary combustion.
Kazimi – July 28th to July 30th
When the Sun and Jupiter reach exact conjunction, something extraordinary will happen on July 29, 2026, 12 degrees 11 minutes Cancer, Pushya Pada 3. In Western astrology, this is called Kajimi, and it means that Jupiter enters the center of the Sun. In the classical tradition, this is not suffering, but a different kind of exaltation, in which the earth is carried into the heart of God. Those ruled by the Sun, with Leo rising and Aries rising, running a solar dasha or solar antardasha, may find that the days around July 28th to July 30th bring about an unusual height of self-confidence, generosity, and mental clarity. This is the only bright window in the otherwise subdued Jupiter phase. Please pay attention.
support the liver
In Ayurvedic anatomy, Jupiter rules the liver. When Jupiter is affected, the energy of the liver can decrease. Drink freshly squeezed organic lemon in hot water in the morning to stimulate liver function. Avoid heavy, oily foods that are difficult to metabolize, especially at night. A simple meal of rice and dhal can give your liver a rest during this period. All kinds of twists in hatha yoga support the liver and help squeeze out toxins. Cow Face Pose (Gomukhasana) is especially helpful for activating the liver over the coming weeks.
Additional remedies
The Jupiter mantra chanted on Thursday brings great peace during this period. Om Guruve Namaha, or the Brihaspati Gayatri Mantra chanted 108 times on a Thursday morning, goes directly to the root of suffering. Thursday is Jupiter’s day. Acts of generosity toward teachers, spiritual guides, and Brahmins, such as feeding others, donating to those who educate, and sponsoring learning, help restore the meaning of Jupiter. These actions literally feed the Jupiter principle, which runs on less fuel. If Jupiter is well placed in your birth chart, you can consider wearing yellow topaz or yellow sapphire in gold.
Signs of the most affected signs
Those with Sagittarius or Pisces rising will feel this most directly, as Jupiter rules both ascendants. Fatigue, decreased optimism, and decreased motivation are the hallmark symptoms. Until mid-August, extra rest, traveling less, and backing out of big commitments will do the trick.
Cancers rising as Jupiter transits the 1st house during the combust may feel unusual self-doubt and a natural decline in self-confidence. Cancer’s elation helps. This is not a collapse, but a temporary darkness. Please be strong.
Those in Leo rising and the Sun’s dasha may paradoxically feel more energetic than usual, especially around the Cazimi window, as the Sun absorbs Jupiter’s exalted warmth.
New Moon of Punarvasu – July 14th
The combustion window opens on the same day as the new moon in July, which falls in Punarvasu Nakshatra at 27 degrees 52 minutes Gemini. Punarvasu means the return of light. This is a signal that rebirth is built into the cycle, even at the beginning of a difficult passage. Intentions set this New Moon around teachers, wisdom, learning, and spiritual guidance can carry the qualities of the nakshatra and keep you grounded over the coming weeks.
Cancer sun
The Sun enters Cancer on July 16, just two days after the beginning of the combust, and the rest of the window deepens themes of home, motherhood, nutrition, and emotional roots. Cancer is a lunar sign, and the Sun here corresponds to autumn in Vedic astrology. Solar fire occurs at a lower voltage than normal. The compensation is the exaltation of Jupiter in the same sign. Where the Sun loses power, Jupiter gains depth and nurturing qualities. This combination favors inner work, family, and spiritual retreat over outward expansion.
Of course, transits are 20% of timing, and everything depends on the larger cycle you’re running. If you have a strong Jupiter dasa or Jupiter is in a well-placed Moon dasha, this combustion will hardly register. If your chart is already under pressure, give it more grace until August 13th and use the remedies listed above.
blessings and peace,
