Eye on the Sky: Transition to Summer

The summer solstice arrives on Saturday, June 20th and lasts until Sunday, June 21st. The longest day of the year is here in the northern hemisphere, while our friends in the southern hemisphere experience the longest night. Cultures around the world have celebrated the summer solstice with music, meditation, and rest. The summer solstice is the point at which the Earth’s electromagnetic energy returns to balance. At this time of year, people often feel pressured to run an extra mile, finish two or three extra errands, or take on one more project. Don’t overdo it. This is a classic mistake regarding the summer solstice. People push themselves at the peak of energy, but then in the first week of the new season they plummet due to illness and fatigue.

The days around the summer solstice are wild. Use it for rest and reflection, not acceleration.

What’s different this year?

This winter solstice has a major Mars transition on top of it. Mars has just entered the constellation Krittika in the early sidereal Taurus and will fully enter the sidereal Taurus on June 20, the same day as the summer solstice. Mars in Taurus is a big change. Mars is debilitated in Taurus, and the fire planet must operate in the slow, earthy, possessive realm of Venus. The pressure points are real. Old Taurus issues with money, food, security, stubbornness, etc. will come to the surface and ask you to take an honest look.

Mars will be in the star constellation Taurus from June 20th to early August. Be aware that slowly building tensions will eventually burst, especially in family and partnership matters where money and shared resources are involved. Krittika and Mars in Taurus are also historically one of the active windows for the long-term bond market. We’ve taken a close look at Fortucast Market Timing’s setup to perform marketwork over decades of cyclical data. And we’re taking a deeper dive into just that kind of work with our new Financial Astrology Case Study Series, which will have a live preview session this Thursday, June 18th at 2pm ET.

How to use the summer solstice

The same advice I’ve given over the years still applies this year. Closed on Fridays and Saturdays. Stay away from irritants. Although the sugar in the extra cookie and the second coffee both seem harmless, they both have a negative effect on the system if the planetary current is already amplified. Meditate longer than usual. Use yoga, especially frog pose, to support Mars and your adrenal glands. Go to bed earlier than you think you need to. If possible, go for a walk at sunrise or sunset.

For those working on their charts, this is a wonderful time to quietly look at your own Mars placement and where the Sun is in your star chart. At the summer solstice, the sun shows its full potential, and the house lords touched by the sun become brighter. In the days following the summer solstice, notice the themes that appear around the house ruled by the Sun. Because these themes will be illuminated for closer consideration over the next six months.

mid-year reset

On the day of the summer solstice, we are quietly given permission to actually reset to mid-year. Half of this year has passed. The house and Dasha, which you were working on on the vernal equinox, have finished part of their work. What did you actually advance? What promises more than results? What do I need to release to lighten the second half?

Spend an hour writing in your journal over the weekend and pondering these questions. The year of astrology is built for practice in this very window. Coming out of the solstice with one clear, honest answer is more valuable than coming out of the solstice with 10 new projects.

I want to know more about Mars and the market

The period of Mars in Krittika and Taurus till early August will be a real preparation for long-term bonds and commodity tapes. The framework for reading these windows will be taught live in Financial Astrology Case Studies, a 12-week session starting Thursday, June 18th at 2pm ET. Thursday’s session will also serve as a live preview and is open to anyone who wants to try out the format before paying. Also includes recordings.
