Leo season runs from July 21st to August 21st. It’s the height of summer and the seasons are stable in this fixed sign. Most people will be taking their summer holidays at this time of year, as they can rely more on the stability of the Sun.
Leo season also marks the start of children’s summer holidays at school – a fun six weeks for the kids, but certainly hectic for the parents. This time of year is also known as ‘spree season’ (at least in the UK), with government holidays and less newsworthy activities.
Leo is the sign associated with children and its house is the 5th house. The hottest time of the year is not the best time to work, but it is the best time to take a vacation. Many Mediterranean countries have big religious festivals during the Leo season.
Leo Season Matchmaking and Dancing
This time of year brings with it fireworks, processions, outdoor theater, dancing, banquets, and other Leo-like activities. It is also a time of celebration and matchmaking. Leo is the most romantic sign, and the 5th house is the house of recreational sex. Leo season emphasizes leisure and play. Leo season contrasts with Cancer season, which we just left behind. Cancer is ruled by the Moon and is more introverted. This is a bit of a contradiction, considering that June 21st to July 21st is usually a warm and comfortable week.
Leo season makes us feel bold and confident because we’re used to the heat. There’s no tanned skin or pale legs that haven’t seen the light of day. Leo season makes us get our act together. By now you’ve sorted out your summer wardrobe and applied nail polish to those filthy toenails. It’s time to make a statement and hit the Leo fashion show.
Looking for a spouse
Leo is Fixed Fire. It’s hot, dry and ruled by the Sun. The flame of inspiration burns strong here, but the dryness makes Leo a solo act. The creative and unique traits in the Fixed mode make for an invincible artistic king or queen. The dramatic Sunflower is associated with Leo, although its oversized head may reflect the size of its ego. But typically, the Sunflower loves to smile into the sun (or bask in the spotlight like a typical Leo diva!)
Leo season is a great time to do some mate hunting, as you need to be in your best form at this time of year. All signs, not just the zodiac divas, will enjoy some sunshine. The sun naturally burns away the cobwebs of depression and lifts our spirits. We are much more likely to get out into nature if it’s not cold, rainy and gloomy. Hay fever sufferers will also be happier, as the grass pollen season (which peaks in mid-June) begins to wane.
The pagan festivals of Lammas and Lughnasad
The pagan festival of Lammus takes place on August 1st. The name means “loaf of bread.” The “bread” part celebrates the first wheat harvest in countries such as the British Isles. Celtic cultures worshipped the sun god Lugh, the craftsman, on August 1st. The holiday is celebrated on the 1st of August.Lughnasad‘ is named after Lugh.
The Church blessed the first bread of the season to give thanks to God. In the olden days, people didn’t have the option of buying bread from the local store. If the crops failed, they could go hungry. The wheat harvest was the result of a year’s hard work.
“By celebrating Lamas as a harvest festival, we honour our ancestors and the hard work they had to do to survive. This is a good time to be thankful for the abundance in our lives and be grateful for the food that is on our table. Lamas is a time of transformation, renewal and new beginnings.” ~ Learning Religion
Creativity and craft
Leo season is a creative time. This is also reflected in the festival of Lughnasa. Craft festivals are often held during these weeks, where artists sell their work. We ourselves can take time to be creative, write music, paint, sing, or act in plays. It’s all play. In some countries, Leo season is a time of make-believe and fantasy warriors.
In Britain, light jousting and medieval mock battles take place in any town with a castle. Men who dress up as knights are very Leo-like! It’s also a great excuse to show off and a great way to impress the ladies, so dress up in style this costume drama season. The world is your stage!
