It is not widely known that WD Gunn went to India and studied Indian sidereal astrology. In his notebook you will find sketches of astrological symbols. In his memoirs, he talks about his discoveries. Gunwheels were first used by tea merchants in 17th century India. The same timing tool that forged one of the most famous careers in the history of market forecasting has its roots in the ancient Indian science of time.
India time cycle and market forecast
The Indian system works through so-called dashas. This is the period when a person’s life is influenced and ruled by certain planets. Each planet has a set number of years to rule. Mars is 7 years, Venus 20 years, Sun 6 years, Moon 10 years, Rahu 18 years, Jupiter 16 years and Saturn 19 years. Within each major period, smaller sub-periods replicate the complete sequence, creating a fractal structure of timing that allows weeks and days to be pinpointed. Where the cycle begins is determined by the position of the Moon at the time of birth or, in the case of the market, at the moment of the first trade.

1987 Crash and Venus/Rahu Window
The power of this system is best illustrated by how it handled the 1987 crash. Barry Rosen pulled the NYSE’s first-tick records from the archives of the Chicago Commodity Exchange Commission in April 1990 and determined that May 17, 1792 was the exchange’s birthday. On October 19, 1987, the New York Stock Exchange birth chart was running a Venus/Rahu sub-period in combination with eclipsed Sagittarius. This combination of Venus and Rahu had appeared in every previous sharp decline in the recorded history of the exchange. To read these periods accurately, four or five levels of the Dasa sequence must be examined simultaneously. Looking at just one or two levels creates a picture that is neither entirely positive nor entirely negative. That combination is a signal.

How to read planetary cycles
The positive or negative nature of a Dasa period depends on where the ruling planet is placed in the birth chart, i.e. the house it occupies, the house it rules, and the house it aspects. Planets forming trinal aspects in the last subperiod have the most beneficial influence. Planets making squares from the 4th house suppress things and make them very difficult. These rules apply whether you are reading a personal chart or a New York Stock Exchange birth chart. Anyone who seeks to unravel the mysterious natural laws that underlie commodity markets will be rewarded and intrigued by the depths of Indian astrology.
