Modern effervescence: Christie at the time of art basel paris
This October, as Paris once again becomes the epicenter of the art world, Christie’s will present Yves Klein’s masterpieces. It is the largest black and white painted by the artist. A sublime encounter, this exceptional canvas returns to Paris for the first time since its creation 64 years ago.
The season begins with an amazing collection of discerning couples assembled in the 1960s. Highlights include major figures of contemporary art and the surrealist avant-garde, such as Signac, Bonnard, Vuillard, Lam, Schiele, Ernst, Magritte, Szafran and Gnoli.
The avant-garde, including considering Italian sales, reveals previously invisible works. Spectacular 1953 landscape by Nicolas de Stael. Two canvases by Jean de Buffett from the 1960s and 70s. An exceptional 1960 painting by Pierre Soulège. Sculpture by Jean Arp at MOMA. Major portraits by Auguste Renoir.
The modern and contemporary art sale features an astonishing group of sculptures by Rembrandt Bugatti and the rediscovery of Edouard Manet’s first plein air painting.
