The Metropolitan Museum of Art recently announced its 2025 theme. The finest tailored black style.” Inspired by Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book.Slaves of Fashion: Styling Black Dandyism and Black Diaspora Identity”
According to Vogue magazine, “This exhibition explores the haunting style of black men in the context of dandyism, from the 18th century to the present day.The 2025 #MetGala chairs are all #blackmen: Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and Anna Wintour will co-chair the 2025 Gala with honorary chair LeBron James Masu.
At a press conference about the exhibit, Farrell said: “We are the survivors of perhaps the most intense hardships, trials and tribulations that have ever plagued humanity. That’s what we’re celebrating at this year’s Met Gala.
We hope this exhibit will honor Andre Leon Talley, one of the most iconic black dandies of the 21st century.
We also request that flowers be sent to Dapper Dan for his contributions to culture and black dandyism.
Even if the exhibit doesn’t, your guests definitely will.
At face value, this is exciting!
We know that black style is inspiring, even though it’s often overlooked and imitated in the fashion industry. We can only hope that next year’s celebration will be a true celebration of Black style and Black designers, a change we’ve been calling for for years.
