Flats have dominated the fashion conversation in recent years, but the Spring 2026 runways are a great reason to reconsider heels. including designers Chanel, Alaïa, and Totem take the classic pump silhouette and update it with a forward-thinking detail: a high vamp. The high-cut, high-coverage details reflect the power-dressing heel silhouette of the ’80s, a decade that’s become increasingly relevant as we head into next season.

All eyes were on Matthew Blazey’s Chanel debut this season, and it was the most talked about shoe in the collection. The collection featured innovative takes on Chanel’s signature black and white aesthetic, including heels in contrasting tones. Elsewhere in the collection, however, two-tone shoes appeared, like sophisticated driving loafers. Chain-embellished T-strap pumps from Dior and Ferragamo showcase the dominant shoe colors of 2026.

Woven details are usually synonymous with vacation attire, but designers are incorporating warm-weather textures into shoes that can be used beyond the beach. For example, a woven leather slingback Bring a coastal vibe to your urban wardrobe with woven loafers from Ralph Lauren and Miu Miu.

While not as formal as loafers or oxfords, they are more sophisticated than your average ballet flat. Derby shoes are an amazing new style that’s perfect for a little daily polish. For Celine’s debut spring 2026 collection, creative director Michael Ryder walked the runway wearing what at first appeared to be ordinary flats with slim soles and a glove-like fit, but upon closer inspection revealed distinctive lace-up details. Sportmax, Lanvin, Miu Miu, and Ralph Lauren have followed suit with their own interpretations of the Derby shoe, indicating that the shoe will be the It Flat of 2026.

One of the signature elements of Jonathan Anderson’s new Dior is none other than the ribbon. Thick tube-like ribbon details were featured on his debut collection of shoes, and the detail felt sweet and sophisticated. Jacquemus similarly sent out pointed-toe pumps finished with delicate bows, while Erdem’s ballet flats had large moiré ribbons attached to the tops. Modern bows are going to be a big trend in footwear, whether it’s flats or heels.

Western details are making a subtle comeback, and the latest addition is Western boots. The designer introduced ankle and knee-high boot silhouettes in his Spring 2026 collection. This was decidedly sleek and modern without being on the nose. At Miu Miu, she looked sloppy and distressed; at ACNE Studios, she arrived in a sleek, sharp style.

Maximalism is back. Throughout the collection, we’ve noticed an explosion of bright colors, prints, and intricate details, and nowhere is this more evident than on the shoes. Embroidery, beading and dainty sequin finishes are signature details of spring’s standout shoes, signaling the arrival of a brand new maximalist era in fashion.
