For me, movement is freedom, joy and expression. Experiencing life through your body can be liberating and exhilarating, but it can also sometimes be rebellious, political, and even controversial.
Because somehow just choosing to exist in my body and move it comes with expectations. I hope you will explain. To justify. To protect. My movement, joy, and self-expression all tie into weight loss.
And I don’t do that anymore.
My journey toward self-love and body acceptance is rooted in reclaiming joyful movement—movement that exists for joy, expression, and connection, not punishment or transformation. And I’d like to share what that’s like for me.
Because you deserve it too.
How I practice fun movement (without linking it to weight loss)
Returning to joyful movement didn’t happen all at once. It’s something I keep exploring, redefining, and returning to in different ways. Some days I seem to slow down and stretch. Other days, they look like they’re dancing in the middle of the grocery store aisle.
There is no one “right” way to do this. These are just ways I’ve learned to move my body on my own terms and have fun.
connect with nature
Getting outside for a hike is one of my favorite ways to have fun and get physically active. It’s not just steps, it’s about experience.
There is something fundamental about being in nature. You can disconnect from the noise and reconnect with yourself for a few hours. I walk between 6 and 10 miles depending on my mood. Sometimes we wander aimlessly, sometimes we chase waterfalls, mountain peaks, and hidden gems.
And importantly, none of this is about calories burned.
Research supports what many of us intuitively feel. According to the American Psychological Association, spending time in nature can reduce stress, improve your mood, and increase your overall sense of well-being.
Yes, let’s go soak up the sun. Hug the tree. Wandering aimlessly.
Your body will thank you. So will your heart.
Drop It Like It Hot
Let me be clear: Yes. do not have I have Megan Thee Stallion’s knees.
But what about my spirit? She is 18 years old and thriving.
When people say, “Dance like no one’s watching,” I take it personally. Grocery store aisle? I’m dancing. A family cookout? absolutely. concert? you already know.
Dancing is one of the purest forms of joyful movement. You will be able to connect with your body and express your emotions without saying a word.
And the science backs it up. A study published by Harvard Health Publishing points out that dancing improves mood, reduces stress, and supports both physical and cognitive health.
If you’re shy, start in the living room. I definitely queued up “Just Dance” on YouTube and listened to it at full blast.
There are no rules here. Belly dancing, freestyle, jazz, anything that moves me.
Just…move.
If I were a mermaid princess
When you put it in water, it becomes a different person.
I don’t care if my fingers get wrinkled or if it rains stay At that pool.
Swimming is one of my favorite ways to experience fun movement, especially because of how it feels in my body. Buoyancy takes pressure off your joints, and you suddenly feel lighter, freer, and almost weightless.

I dance, stretch, run on the spot, try out moves…no structure, no expectations.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, water-based exercise is especially beneficial because it provides a full-body workout with less impact on your joints.
But honestly? I don’t think about training.
Thinking about joy.
And yes, you can do all of this in a two-piece swimsuit.
Let’s bend, assemble, and turn
Another important part of my enjoyable athletic journey is strength and mobility.
I like being able to touch my toes. Lift heavy things. Squat, stretch, jump and make life easier.

For me, weightlifting is not about shrinking your body, it’s about expanding what your body can do. do.
There is something empowering about discovering your strengths. I realized I could rearrange furniture by myself and confidently bend over in heels to grab my keys.
Strength training supports longevity, bone health, and independence. But beyond that, it’s feel good.
That’s what’s important.
Dream bigger dreams with fun movements
There are still many ways you can explore fun movement.
pole dance. Aerial class. Learn how to move your body in the air in a way that feels bold, powerful and new.
Because movement doesn’t have to be routine or rigid. It can be playful. Experimental. Even if it’s a little bold.
You don’t have to justify your joy.
Don’t let food culture win
Food culture will strive again and againto convince you that exercise is only “important” if it leads to weight loss.
it’s not.

It’s okay to move your body because it feels good. Because it connects you. Because it brings you joy.
So let’s go dancing. Let’s go hiking. Go stretch. Let’s go swimming. Feel the sun on your skin and the water on your body.
Wear a crop top.
takes up space.
Live life to the fullest and make fun exercise a part of it.
