Blink and you’ll miss it. This past year, banana republic digs deep into its archives (almost 50 years worth!) to reissue and reinterpret some of its most beloved vintage pieces. After a recent collaboration with Explorers Club for an archival reissue, the heritage brand will launch a new vintage-inspired collection on June 24th. This time, the brand is calling for: Amy Blanchard—Vintage curator, stylist, and co-owner of Portland-based Vintage james rowland shop—Weigh yourself.
Keep scrolling to hear from Blanchard about her favorite pieces from the collection and how Banana Republic’s archives team approaches curation. Plus, I’ll be sharing 10 things to add to your cart once your collection runs out. Be sure to mark June 24th on your calendar. I have a feeling that it won’t be in stock for a long time.
The inspiration behind the collection
My first reaction to this collection was, “This is giving.” 90’s chic. ”Maybe it’s the minimalist in me, or maybe it’s the Sarah Pidgeon influence. love story, I was sure this was the inspiration, but erring on the side of caution, I asked Banana Republic Senior Archives Max Cohen for confirmation. “We were particularly drawn to the late 1990s and early 2000s era and saw an opportunity to celebrate the women of Banana Republic through a dedicated womenswear capsule,” Cohen revealed.
“What makes this era so appealing is its focus on sophisticated simplicity. Products are designed with clean, thoughtful silhouettes and premium materials, with an emphasis on fabric, texture and craftsmanship,” says Cohen.
Upcoming Banana Republic Vintage Drop
What should we expect from this release? Well, who better to give an opinion than Blanchard herself? “There’s a nice mix of classy basics like silk ribbed knits, cashmere tank tops and easy linen trousers. Then there’s great, more ambitious pieces like leather and suede jackets and baby blue ballgown skirts. And then there are accessories that are a little more sporty-leaning, like the nylon sports pack. I love the juxtaposition of sporty and luxe, which is very Bay Area-coded, and that’s where Banana Republic and I are both from.
It’s clear that the opportunity to explore the Banana Republic archives is not lost on Blanchard and Cohen. “This process is so meaningful because it allows us to draw from authentic heritage,” Cohen said.
I have a feeling this will sell well.
It’s breathtakingly beautiful.
