Track-by-Track Review: Lady Gaga, ‘MAYHEM’
SHARE

More than a reminder of Lady Gaga’s dance pop roots – it’s not exactly a lost era – for her stylistic reinvention – Cancer It acts as a reaffirmation. Call it back to shape – Gaga “I prefer to reassemble a crushed mirror. It’s also at the largest, more chaotic and ultimately romantic than the ones on sale. Chromatica (perhaps HarkeynWe’ve already forgotten) and was supported by her fiancé Michael Polansky, who co-produced the record with Gesafelstein, Cirkut and Andrew Watt. Gaga’s seventh album unveils its status as the best-order industrial dance music – it has a single to boot – but somehow it needs to find a way to the closing Bruno Mars duet “Die with a Smile” without leaving the rails entirely. As is the case, you are left with not only doubting what artists Gaga’s kind respects, which versions she is stitching together, but how she appears to be moving forward.

1. disease

CancerThe lead single of the video seems close to me. It turns out that Gaga is facing various versions of herself as a minor phor of her inner confusion. But even if removed from the efficacy of the visual accompaniment, “Illness” starts the album with enough maximalism to immediately justify that the title is all caps. Of course, this song rests on the promise of a cure. “I was able to play a doctor,” Gaga declares one of the many roles she will take on.

2. Abracadabra

When I first heard of it, “Abracadabra” left a bigger impression on me than “sickness.” So I wrote about it as one of February’s best songs. It’s Trussier and Sirie, but there’s no doubt that the two songs are cut from the same dance pop cross. So I was worried that the records would be a) frontloaded and b) small one-dimensional. but CancerWe were able to provide further advances.

3. Eden’s Garden

The album’s first single, although the post-chorus is ten times more hooks than the actual hook, summons all the brave euphoria you’d expect from that title. Apart from “ttt you in the garden of Eden,” there is at least one memorable line. Then think about what you do.

4. The perfect celebrity

The purpose of “Perfect Celebrity” is to make it demoisologic, and Gaga is far from the first pop star who wrote about fame like that. You might argue that one of the people who set up the template. But the fact that Gaga unleashes his 10.5 years of frustration and baggage makes it a powerful way. She starts the record by singing Hardening It’s the poison in her lover, but she also has poison in her.

5. I’ll disappear to you

The album’s first real moment of optimism is ecstatic, even slowing down momentum. It’s not something that comes to mind when people say it Cancer “Gaga’s Ghost” is everything!

6. killer

Is the prince indexed? Princess-like? Prince pastiche? Whatever you want to call it, the inspiration shines instantly. In collaboration with French electro icon Gesafelstein, Gaga actually does justice for reference, but what’s even more fascinating is when he starts to transform into something else. If it’s not sinking yet Cancer It’s more than an industrial dance record, and this freakout should do that.

7. Zombie Boy

“Zombieboy,” a homage to late model Rick Genest, who starred in the 2011 video for “Born This Way,” is effervescent, slinky and charming. There is a good groove, but Solo isn’t afraid to leave this world a little. This is the right combination. This is still a dance party. We’re changing disco more!

8. Lovedrug

More struts, more fun. Lady Gaga may have said she can play the doctor, but she still needs a dose of what’s right. Maybe she does self-medical care? “My heart is bound/If I can endure it myself, I won’t try my best to paralyze what is left of it,” she sings. It’s okay here.

9. How bad are you making me

Plimming us for a record ballad-heavy final stretch (it’s not there yet yet), landing awkwardly like Taylor Swift’s song “What a bad thing” mistress. Instead of “bad, bad boys, shiny toy prices,” she sings about the fear that even good boys will leave. Jack Antonov, stay in your seat!

10. Don’t call tonight

It means “my name” right? Would you like to call my name? Yale Alejandro? Anyway, Funk is back to this, but like the previous track, it feels a bit brighter. Cancer You need to back up.

11. Man’s shadow

Mission completed: Gaga matches Grit with a glittery “Man’s Shadow.” It finds her strong declaration: “Look at me, I swear/I will dance in the shadow of a man.” It makes “the perfect celebrity” feel like an outlier in the theme on the record, and like the whole thing.

12. beast

This is the second Michael Jackson channel track, this time only in ballad mode. Of course, she nails it with her voice, but the song is fine. Not the most innovative song Cancer Evokes horror images.

13. Grass blade

Includes “Die with a smile” Cancer One thing was really necessary to finish it with three ballads? Even if “Death with a Smile” was the best ballad in the world, it doesn’t seem to get better gradually (the most dominant right now, yes), listeners are already tired.

14. Die with a smile

What do you know, it’s fine. It’s soulful. Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ voices come together incredibly beautifully. Near the album, it works to assert that fact Cancer It’s a truly romantic album than a chaotic one. But I’m sure I’m not the only one. “When the party is over,” they sing. But it was an explosion.
