Time to Get Foxy with Katherine Silva’s Indie Author Summer Interview
SHARE

Welcome to my dear reader of #indieauthorsummer episode 3. This brings authors who find this author, the final article in the Indie Author Summer Series, to be extremely unique and someone you have to keep an eye on. I had a great opportunity to interview Catherine Silvaan indie author based in Maine. She did some great work, but I’ll mention more towards the end of the article. What put Katherine on my radar? Deadline trilogy. If one of your heroes is a revived Talking Fox, you should be careful. What more? The fox is absolutely cheerful.

Don’t struggle any more, talk to Catherine herself.

Abby Wolf: At what point in your life did you want to pursue professional writing?

Catherine Silva: I dropped out of college and worked in retail. Writing has always been a strong love in my life, and it has given me the opportunity to self-publish my recently completed manuscript with a local group supporting the design, editing and other publishing processes of books. It was 2010 when self-publishing was still very new. When the book came out into the world and got me in my hands, I was hooked. I just wanted to continue.

AW: Could you please tell me a little about existing work? Which of your favorites so far?

KS: Over the past 15 years, I have published 17 books. Some of my favourites have been in the last few years, but my absolute favorites so far are Dead Fork. I loved the idea of reuniting with the characters from the first book and taking the story in a different direction with Western influences. This felt very automatic to me. I love writing action scenes and sadness, and this is stuffed with jams full of both.

There's nothing

AW: Whether your latest projects, newly released publications, what can you tell us about your latest projects?

KS: I just finished and published Barpin’s Cursefirst part Undead forkcharacterized by the influence of dystopia and desert punk. My next book comes up Where does the soul go?It will be released from Truborn Press in September 2025. This combines a lot of my favorite ratios: food, dystopian landscapes, sadness, road trips and more. It is also set against the alternative background of the 80s. This was a lot of fun writing.

AW: What’s the most amazing thing you’ve learned during the writing process?

KS: I’ve found myself writing a lot when I’m doing time crunching, especially in the past few years. I have much more discernible in word choices, I can cut fat where I need it, and I can engage in voice. Also, I can’t stop myself from doing too much at once. That’s something I need to work on.

AW: What advice would you give to an author who is just starting out?

KS:Pace yourself. You have always had all over the world to make your story shine and sing the way you want it. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. And don’t be afraid that your ideas may be too strange for readers. Readers love weird things. Your voice belongs to you and yours.

AW: What was the strangest thing you had to research for the project?

KS: Although not necessarily as researching as fanaticism, my first novel contained many operatic influences. I’ve been asked about Donizetti Il Dolce Suono (From Lucia DDI Lammermoor) Over 10 hours while working on a book scene.

AW: Tell us what you like about the work on the indie side of publishing and one difficult thing about it.

KS: I love my fellow press, authors, and the books they publish. Diversity, such openness towards such unique and strange stories. Something Big 5 Publishers might not want to take risks. The best books I’ve read came from Indie Press and Indie authors. However, publishing the book “The Indie Way” requires a lot of work and a lot of commitment. When I first started the industry, I didn’t know how to market my job. It requires constant attention and putting yourself in there, whether you are comfortable doing it or not. You are the only person who knows your work and yourself. You are someone who has to sell yourself.

ah:If we could welcome authors on a remote island, who would they be and why?

KS: If it’s anybody who’s alive or dead, it’s Anthony Bourdain. I went before his time. A master class that absolutely gave him his perspective on food, life and writing.

ah: What was your latest 5 star reading?

KS: Finished updates on Jacy Morris from Tenebrous Press We like it cherry And it’s definitely one of the cruelest page turners I’ve read in a while. It’s been 5 stars forever.

ah: What are you currently reading or listening to?

KS: I’m between projects, so I’m listening to the works of Marika Hackman and Simon Sternhag while editing. As I was working on interior formatting and cover design, I have been shaking the events of Elle Michels. “Enter The 37th Chamber” is an incredible cover album of Wu-Tang Clan’s best songs.

Katherine is a finalist for the three main literary awards in speculative fiction. She is also the editor-in-chief Strange Wild Press. Included in her other works Forgetting the Wild Series and Mustrancronicle Series, others. She edited too Boreal, Taiga horror anthology, An anthology of 22 stories that mix together the dark and lonely forests of Taiga Biome. We recommend checking out her website or considering picking up one of her books. Her voice is stunning in the nuances of fear and sadness. It was really fun Withered person Trilogy and Barpin’s Curse.

The last thing I want to leave you, readers look at those dark corners of the bookstore. Find books and authors that aren’t falling into the direct spotlight, or a platform that allows for huge reach. You will find some gems, I promise you. You can also find your next favorite book.

You can read my previous indie author’s Summer Summer interview with Kat Delani and discover another new author and perhaps your next summer reading.
