For decades, Steve and Evelyn Orth have hosted tours of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. Wall Street Preacher) had converted to Catholicism 20 years earlier, and the tour quickly became the Metropolitan Opera’s Catholic tour.
There’s such high demand for the tour that they can’t accommodate everyone, so they’ve written the essence of it into a new book. Pilgrimage to the Museum: Man in Search of God.
Steve joins us on the show to talk about his spiritual approach to art history and to view work from the perspective of the underlying search for, or at least wrestling with, God that all true artists exhibit.
But he also talks about what makes the Met so special (if you want to learn all about art history, the Met is one of the most encyclopedic museums in the world) and offers tips on how to get the most out of your museum visit.
