Why are drag queens and drag shows becoming more popular in America? RuPaul’s Drag Race Drag culture, now comprised mostly of young, liberal women, is why a movement originally intended as a deconstruction of frivolous, self-conscious, artificial masculinity has paradoxically become one of progressivism’s most powerful symbols of serious, authentic self-expression.
Darrell Paul, a professor of political science at Williams College, joined the podcast to talk about the recent First In the essay “Drag Queen,” he attempts to answer the above questions while presenting insights into his relationship with the LGBT movement, “wokeness,” and the predominantly female-led therapeutic culture in America.
