In a recent video,
pint with aquinas
Channel’s Gregory Pine OP expressed concern that popular entertainment, especially music and movies, often becomes an obstacle to achieving the heavenly meditative purpose for which we are created. did. It is worth noting that, contrary to typical Catholic commentary on pop culture, Fr. Pine focuses less on the moral content of music and movies and more on how the form itself affects us physically, psychologically, and spiritually.
In this discussion, I was inspired by Fr. Pine’s point, host Thomas Milas and filmmaker Nathan Douglas, not only identify some elements of music and movies that can be a hindrance to a contemplative life, but also encourage people to simply avoid music and movies. Rather, it also suggests how we can better engage with art in deeper ways. The contemplative end of humanity.
