The film adaptation of Edith Wharton’s famous 1913 novel is an exciting development for fans of period dramas and literary works. customs of the country ‘ has taken a big step forward with the addition of rising star Leo Woodall to the main cast. The project, starring Sidney Sweeney, promises to bring a fresh and compelling vision to Wharton’s timeless story of ambition, social ascent, and the American pursuit of success.

Woodall gave a mesmerizing performance on HBO white lotus Season 2 and Netflix one day Sweeney, who gained international acclaim for the miniseries, will join the film adaptation of the tragicomedy, set against the glittering but dangerous backdrop of early 20th century New York City. Deadline reports that the casting confirms the project’s momentum and the team’s commitment to assembling a talented ensemble.

The story centers on Undine Spragg, a young Midwestern woman. Her beauty, determination, and relentless ambition propel her through the city’s elite social hierarchy. As she navigates the high-stakes world of wealth and influence, Undine faces fierce opposition from the established upper class, but her resolve remains unwavering. Her journey offers a poignant exploration of America’s obsession with status and the lengths to which one will go to achieve it.

This film adaptation is a collaborative effort between several prominent production companies. StudioCanal and Rabbit Foot Films are partnering to bring Wharton’s beloved novel to the big screen, with Monumental Pictures, StudioCanal and acclaimed writer and producer Charles Finch also participating. Sydney Sweeney, who is on board as a producer, will bring her signature intensity to the role of Undine.

Josie Rourke, known for her acclaimed theatrical work, adapted the screenplay from Wharton’s novel and will direct, promising a nuanced and visually rich retelling of the story. While the main cast has not yet been fully revealed, casting director Nina Gold is actively scouting for talent to fill supporting roles, with the aim of assembling a dynamic ensemble to complement Sweeney and Woodall.

Studiocanal is independently financing the project and will oversee theatrical distribution in multiple territories, including the UK, France, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Poland and the Benelux. As of now, no release date has been announced for the film, but expectations continue to rise as it promises to be a compelling adaptation of one of Wharton’s most incisive works.

Sidney Sweeney’s star power and Leo Woodall’s growing reputation are joined by a talented creative team. customs of the country is shaping up to be an outstanding addition to the list of literary adaptations to be released theatrically in the coming years.
