Playing With Meat And Gems: Banana Chan On Exploring The Dark Side Of Fashion In Knockoff

Continuing from the first part of the interview, TTRPG designer and screenwriter Banana Chan (Van Richen’s Guide to Ravenloft, Jiangxi: Blood in the Banquet Hall) And I dig deeper into the strange, and a little gloss that she created a new form of fashionable horror in a solo TTRPG Imitation.

Dan Arndt: One thing I really like is that Forge is set in New York in 2023. I think the imitations are set in the same way.

Banana Chan:Ah, 2024. New York 2024 Fashion Week.

I appreciate it being very overly modern. But that’s a bit different from some of what you did. It’s very historic. You’ve done a lot in the other world. How was it to get to the right place where you could walk around?

I think a lot of the inspiration was partying in New York and doing all the fun things that come with life in New York. I was telling someone a really interesting story about how I was at the opening of an art gallery in the opening of an art gallery where my friend works and the opening of a pretty big celebrity involved. My friend was basically trying to manage the behind the scenes for artists who painted. There is also an after party. So me and my friends are going to the afterparty and waiting for friends who work in the gallery to come.

10 minutes have passed, still busy, 20, 30 minutes, still busy, but do you wonder what’s going on? Why does this take so long? And they came in and finally ran to the door and ran to the door and said, “Oh, I can’t believe it. You don’t believe this. I had to clean up a pile of coke in the bathroom. They were really apologetic and said, “Everyone buys drinks. Sorry, I wasn’t going to hold you all.” These are stories of people saying, “Man, I wish I lived in New York.”

that’s why Fakeartifacts were painted numbers and were centered around the world of art. Did the shift to fashion seem like a logical next step? Was that something you wanted to explore?

I don’t know if anyone else has had the same experience, but many people living in New York go to these art galleries, art gallery hopping are like a Venn diagram of people going to fashion events as well. A regular spotted in art galleries every Thursday night is when the next party becomes a fashion event and a fashion event when there is free wine. They are more attractive. If you want to slow things down, go to the opening of the art gallery. If you want to speed up the pace, go to a fashion event if you want to watch.

This was once called back then Fashion night. It was supposed to be a time when people were really excited for these different brands, these different brands. Because they open the door and have free liquor, free wine, and sometimes free products. For example, I go to Levi’s shop. You’ll get a glass of champagne and also get free jeans. And it’s not just a store. Go down another block. There is another store holding the same event, a store a few blocks away, and another store hosts the event. Soho has all the shops next to each other, so you just have to go from one store to the next, then the next, and everything is wasted.

It’s like bar hopping.

It’s bar hopping, but for free, you get free clothes and free makeup, and there’s all this free stuff, so why do you pay for clothes? I think back then, they thought, “People would get drunk and spend a lot of money on clothes.” People were drunk but they didn’t spend any money on clothes. Instead, they just came back, people were getting wild, there was a fight, people were just a lot of each other. From the opening of the art gallery to the fashions they like, it feels like there’s a lot of overlap as people who go to both have experienced many of these strange events, strange events.

Tell me a little about artifact mechanics Imitation:croquis.

It’s very similar FakeIt’s still like paint in numbers, but instead of painting, I take a sample of paper fabric and use scissors to cut and paste the paper fabric sample into the numbers section to cut and paste these different fabrics. There are three different types of fabrics to choose from for each chapter. in FakeIt has warm, cool and neutral colors. in Imitationyou have no weaving, knitting, and weaving.

Was it something that was played in the game’s horror elements by bringing together patchwork, sewing, and sort of things?

They do. As the game progresses, some of the fabric may look a bit like human skin without much decay, but you may see teeth and so on. And I believe it is near the end of the book, a sample of the fourth and fifth fabrics you have chosen. They would be a little more frightening. Therefore, the final dough sample you get will be a combination of meat and jewels. These are all photos and scans of different doughs and different types of meat I play with.

I love what you bring Amadeus and Phantom Thread. I don’t know much about the influence of fashion, but I think it’s cool to see it. Tabletop games can be very isolated and it’s great to see such an outwardly game that is pulling the world of art or pulling the world of fashion.

Yes, this made me think of something that I don’t think all art is the same, but they inspire each other. You don’t think fashion can live for yourself without recognizing other forms of art, and without recognizing everything, right? The same goes for tabletop games. Tabletop games are art forms and I don’t think they can exist in their own right without eliciting other kinds of art or any other influence that is happening in the world or other kinds of media.

Imitation Still funding BackerkitFunds have been set to run until May 12th.
