There’s a lot to see at Berlin’s museums this month, from major retrospectives to exhibitions exploring textiles and photography. Here are four exhibitions that opened in July and are worth adding to your summer itinerary.

materistine: important things, important things in hamburger bahnhof (July 3, 2026 to March 14, 2027)

Hamburger Bahnhof continues its ambitious program: important things, important thingsa group exhibition by “Materistin”, which brings together eight female sculptors based in Leipzig. This installation explores labor, collective practice, and solidarity. Combining social commentary and experimental art practice, this exhibition interrogates how materials themselves carry history and invites visitors to reconsider their relationship to the physical and economic world.

Glenn Ligon: Double America At the New National Museum of Art (July 4 – October 11, 2026)

Works by American artist Glenn Ligon double america This summer, it will take center stage in a special presentation at the Neue Nationalgalerie. First created in 2012, this striking neon work spells out the word “America” twice, once backwards and once in a mirror, inviting viewers to question ideas of identity, history, and national mythology. It was announced as part of. we are the people In this program, installations utilize the simplicity of language and light to challenge the notion of America’s singular narrative.

Photos tell the story of sculpture At the Bode Museum (July 16 – October 4, 2026)

What happens when you look at a sculpture through the lens of a camera? Photos tell the story of sculpture Approximately 60 historical and contemporary photographs are paired with medieval and Renaissance sculptures to examine the relationship between three-dimensional works of art and their photographic reproductions. The result is an exhibition that reveals how perspective, light, and framing fundamentally shape the way we experience art.

Sophie Dawo. fiber experiment Kunstgewerbemuseum (July 17, 2026 – January 17, 2027)

Textiles play a central role in Sophie Dawo’s research. Sophie Dawo’s radical approach blurred the boundaries between art and craft. Dawo intentionally disrupted and deconstructed the fabric, allowing chance to become part of the creative process. Featuring 22 works and a selection of paper drawings, this exhibition focuses on the originality of an artist who continues to have great influence.
