fall out is finally back for season 2, with a season 2 premiere that links somewhat seamlessly as a continuation of season 1. After a long six-minute recap, “The Innovator” plunges right into the events with the expectation that you know what’s going on, or at least figure out the plot right away. Will it be successful? I certainly think so. fall out For better or worse, we pick up where we left off, and the good far outweighs the bad.

The weird thing about this episode is that there’s so little effort fall out We will start the second season with a great premiere. Typically, TV shows like to start their seasons with something new and exciting, a big set piece, or a shocking development to signal the beginning of the next phase of the story.

When I say “The Innovator” seamlessly connects to Season 1, I mean it as an episode that could have aired right after the Season 1 finale. This felt like another episode in an ongoing season. Lucy is looking for her father. The ghoul is with her and is still looking for information on his wife and daughter. Hank is in Las Vegas preparing for his next step. The gnome is still trapped in Vault 31. I don’t even see Maximus or the Brotherhood.

To be clear, this is not a criticism of the episode. fall out It hasn’t lost any of the charm, fun, and professional Fallout feel that made the first season one of, if not the best, video game adaptation ever. The chemistry between Lucy and the ghouls remains intact in the opening scene where they defeat Khan’s group. They’re the focus of this episode, as is the ongoing moral battle over how to handle the Wasteland, as seen in Lucy’s failed speech check to avert the ghouls’ plan to kill Khan and seek peace in his place.

(Of course, I watched the ghouls slaughter the gang and clapped like a fanboy seal to “Big Iron”?)

I enjoyed most of the characters in Season 1, but there’s no doubt that the combination of Lucy and Ghoul is truly amazing fall out. I want to know what Maximus and the Brotherhood are doing, but if I were to pick a duo to focus on in the first episode, that would be the obvious choice.

A significant portion of the episode is also devoted to flashbacks showing more of Robert House and Cooper’s continued involvement in Vault-Tec’s plot to stop the end of the world. Opinions on the decision to move season 1 fallout While I’m a little divisive about the political commentary moving away from the Cold War and firmly into corporate capitalism, I like the choice, and Season 2 wasted no time in reaffirming how the evils of Vault-Tec and post-apocalyptic capitalism function as the main evils of modern society. fall out.

In the opening scene, House is comically sinister as he attends a meeting of disgruntled workers, insults them, takes them to a parking lot, and beats them up. The mind control device he uses was found among corpses strewn in Vault 24, and Hank also uses it to communicate through someone in the same vault, so it’s clearly going to be an important plot point this season.

(Fun fact: the contents of Vault 24 are Fallout: New Vegasand joins the up-and-coming tradition of really cool callbacks utilized throughout this show. )

We’ll have to wait and see what exactly the recast, or rather addition, of Justin Theroux’s version of Robert House will be. Previews for upcoming episodes reveal that the House we saw in season 1 will be part of season 2, so this won’t be a simple recast. There is speculation that this is a reference to the shadow of Howard Hughes, the real-life businessman who was the model for House at the time.

Gnome trapped in Vault 31 in Fallout

In any case, any fan leftovers (Please watch it) Let me tell you how great Theroux is on screen. He made an immediate impression here and I can’t wait to see what else he has in store fall out I’ll do it with him. We know that Cooper is after him with a shady plan to kill him in hopes of stopping him from launching a world-ending nuclear weapon. I’ll be interested to see if this leads to Cooper killing Kagemusha, or if Cooper somehow ends up getting involved in pushing the button himself. Considering what Cooper is learning about his wife, it’s interesting that he still seems intent on finding her.

(Another obvious callback occurs when Cooper, on his way to take his daughter to a meeting with Moldaver, drives through an area very similar to Sanctuary Hills at the beginning of the film. fallout 4comes with a very similar looking Vault-Tec rep. )

Perhaps the least interesting part of this episode is what happens in Vaults 31, 32, and 33. Between planning a party, fixing a water chip, and neglecting Stephanie Harper’s child, these scenes serve as a reminder that these people exist and that the gnome ultimately makes a huge difference in their lives. But Norm’s brief scenes continue to develop him into one of the best characters, and I’m super excited to see what he does with a vault full of thawed buzz buds.

Overall, there’s no doubt that this premiere served to set up future plotlines. We still don’t have any real answers about the state of New Vegas (aside from poor Novak) or what direction the show will take with the game’s conflict over the city and Hoover Dam. We still don’t know what’s going on with Robert House or what Hank’s ultimate plan is.

What we can be sure of at first glance is that fall out It’s going to be just as good as the first season. Everything I loved about it is still there, from the gore to the flea soup to the biting critique of the super-rich and nefarious corporations.

Good to have fall out return.
