‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ Producer Roy Thomas Baker Dead at 78

Roy Thomas Bakarm, a British producer and engineer who worked with Queen, cars, foreigners, and more, has passed away. The cause of death has not been revealed. Baker was 78 years old.

Born in London in 1946, Baker began his career at a young age, working at the city’s Decca Studios at the age of 14. During his apprenticeship, he served as the second engineer of leading producers as Gus Dudgeon (Elton John) and Tony Visconti (David Bowie, T. Rex), working on recordings for the Rolling Stones, Yes, Moody Spring Blues and Masti Springfield. more. He then worked at Trident Studios, helping out with the Queen Signs for Trident’s record production company Neptune, and co-produced a self-titled album with the band, John Anthony and Queen. In addition to working with Queen, Baker produced the first four albums of the car, producing records for Foreigners, Alice Cooper, Cheap Trick, Devo, Ozzy Osbourne, Sammy Hager, Strangler, Guns N’ Rose and Smashing Pumpkin. “Roy taught me a lot about handling band personalities,” says late car singer-songwriter Rick Okasek.
